Setting sail aboard the Ruby Princess by Cruiser78917419

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This cruise came highly recommended to us from friends.  Our cabin was very comfortable and rommier than I excepted...balcony was large!  Plenty space to hang clothes and a lot of drawers and shelves for clothes and stuff. Room was clean, clean, clean and our steward kept is straightened.

Food was good at the buffet, great at the seated dinners and really nice at the Crown Grill.  Availability of food was convenient as we missed the seated diner a few times due to our excursions. Enjoyed breakfast...so much variety.

Entertainment was fun.  Enjoyed music, piano, singing, magic and comedy. Heard 2 talks on Alaska and that was interesting.

Very nice view of the bow on TV and appreciated announcements from Captain (or whoever) for things to see as we sailed.

Crew was friendly...smiling and busting their butts everyday for us.  Appreciate that!

Alaska Amazing scenery and wildlife - but will not cruise with Princess again by hong10521

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Our first cruise experience with Princess Rubby was a disappointment.  My family have cruised with other cruise line before, and my kids said they disappointed from what was heard. The Rubby Princess folks spent more time nickle-and-dime their guests than attending to their needs. The first day of embarkation they broke my luggage (new luggage I just bought) - they gave us  boarding scheduled@ 1pm,  we  boarded after 2pm, and our rooms were not ready yet. The buffet available throughout the day was mediocre, some of the breakfast buffet food looks like the left over from the "elegant" dinning, lunch buffet left over from breakfast buffet, the anytime "elegant" dining served up tiny portions, even ice water, we had to waited/raise hand for a glass of water, (perhaps they were short of server). BTW fresh ginger, green tea, and honey works best for me with motion sickness, so I brought from home fresh ginger, but accidentally left it in the hotel room,  I got some motion sickness and asked for fresh ginger, I was told to go to the kitchen in Lido deck, I asked the Cabire kitchen, told to go to Horizon kitchen, I went to Horizon kitchen, a chef there told me "we don't have ginger", I replied "the Cabire kitchen told me to go here" he said "let me go and look", while waiting I talked to a server, that yesterday evening one server did gave me some, after about 10-15min. the chef came back said "you are very unlucky mam, the cabinet is locked and we don't have the key", I walked around to the other station and asked a different chef, I told him what happened - this chef came back gave me a good portion, and told me "keep it for next days". The Princess website identified many nice beautiful pools/Jacuzzi;  However, they are small, and 2 out of 5 Jacuzzi have the sign "under maintenance"  - the steam room and lockers need to be bigger to accommodate 2000+ guess on board - the steam room literately can fit 5 persons, and they should have an assigned attendant to assist guess in this area, some senior guess  have trouble using the locker, one guess found a lady from the "Spa/salon" desk for help with the locker, and I heard  she said "I can't stay here to open the locker for you all" !!! - and I noticed that the attendant greet/talk very nice to guess was there for "facial/massage" etc...but guess who comes in to use steam/sauna/shower room they don't care, The entertainment was ok if you had never seen a Broadway show or other more professional entertainment. Some of the server in the buffet the staff was, at best, I really like the waiter named Masykur Nasri, he was very nice, and very helpful,  his service  give me some plus to compensate the other minus from the ship.  We had an opportunity to speak with other travelers who were on our cruise, they too felt that the  Princess could have done a better job, especially the food. I would not recommend Rubby Princess.

Alaskan cuise by jeffshiner2001

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The cruise was awesome the food was great. It would be better if the time spent on the ship and time on land was a little more even. Maybe not so much time at sea.

Beautiful views from ship and land by Cruiser29833205

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The views of Glacier Bay from the ship were wonderful and the narrative given by the ship's staff were very informative.

The on land tours recommended by Cruise One Specialist were well worth the price.  The tour guides were very well informed.

I did not like the selling atmosphere while on the ship.  Was somewhat surprised by the prices of extras with soda and the special dinner.  Paid for one special dinner-Crown Grill.  The food was just ok and the service was better in the general dining rooms.  It was very disappointing as it was our anniversary and we expected something special.  The staff of the ship are great.  They were very helpful and respectful at all times.  The boarding, departure, and the transportation from the ship to the airport were all very organized and all was quick when you considered the number of people on board.

Inside Passage by Cruiser787767

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We had spectacular weather and therefore the scenery was magnificent.

The Salmon were not in yet, so we missed the seals and whales.  A few were spotted by others in our party, but were not in the right place at the right time.  sigh.

It Was a Very Nice Experience by CGranger

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The cruise was relaxing, the scenery was beautiful, the entertainment was okay and the food ranged from pretty good to very good.  We had some outstanding customer service experiences, with almost everyone aboard the ship working very hard to make the trip as enjoyable as possible, and they all did it with with genuine smiles.  The excellent customer service was the best part.

Breathtaking sights, forgettable cruise line by willchills816

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was my eleventh cruise on my fourth different cruise line so I have plenty of information on which to conduct this review.  First the positive:  Alaska is the most beautiful place I have ever seen and this was actually my second Alaska cruise.  Each stop in Alaska was breath taking and offered something different.  The one place we didn't actually stop, Glacier Bay National Park, was the most breath taking of all.  Now for the negative.  Overall the service aboard ship was, in a word, horrible.  With the notable exception of my cabin steward Richard and room service personnel, I found most of the staff to be rude and not very accommodating.  Many request were met with scorn, eye rolling or just outright refusal.  On my ten previous cruises I have never been treated this way.  It wasn't disrespectful, it just that simple requests were politely declined.  The waiters in both the Botticelli and Da Vinci dining rooms, at breakfast and at dinner treated requests such as asking for iced tea or lemonade or requesting something else from the kitchen as if granting it would come out of their pockets.  (We sat at table 130 in the Botticelli dining room for dinner and random places in Da Vinci for breakfast)  It seemed as if the staff was trained to politely decline requests for products that were included in our cruise so that guests would just stop asking.  Any request made for items costing additional money, such as a drink from the bar was immediately treated with the respect I am accustomed to receiving on cruise ships.  Even the design of the ship was inconvenient.  You could not take the elevator directly to the floor of the dining room.  You could however take it to the floor above the dining room and walk down, after passing through the shopping areas which i think was by design.  The final negative has to do with the last stop in Victoria, British Colombia.  We did not arrive there until 7pm and then we were only granted 4 hours there.  Having been there before I looked forward to again visiting the Empress hotel and Craigdarroch Castle but time did not permit on this trip.  In conclusion do take an Alaska cruise, just not on this cruise line.  I am going back to Royal Caribbean and Holland and will never cruise Princess again

North to Alaska by jgoodfellow

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

So this was our first cruise ever. The weather was awesome sunny and even hot.. The towns were fun and Glacier bay was really something to see. For the most part the food was good and Our cabin Steward was over the top helpful and kept things perfectly clean.

But......

1. no water package in room. I was told email our corporate office.

2. No bathrobes. I was told they were being washed

3. Complimentary to go coffee mugs took 3 trips to get finally I complained and the brought them to our room.

4.second day no bath robe was told we were not on the list to get them. ( our steward took care of that one for us.)

5. Aft bartender lady was extremely incompetent Berated other crew members in front of passengers. Rude to guest "I can't remember how to make that. Can you choose another one." to one guest. Then told my wife "I don't have the right glass to make that. And when I ordered an Irish coffee. "I have to walk all the down there to get coffee." SERIOUS exact quotes.

6. The "Share dinner " looked good but was all show no substance 6 courses of less the Denny's quality food. Staff there was very nice but the food sucked. The beef was very tough. I had a hard time cutting through. The Buffet was better. and it took a long time.

7.Room service was sub par. Tried on many occasions to order the phone just rang. Once they did answer they man was agitated. I order a club house he said "it will take an hour." I said fine he exhaled and said "fires chips or cole slaw?" I said fries and Ia glass of milk. Ninety minutes later it shows up. Half a sandwich with a glass of room temperature milk. Its sucked.

8. I place an online room service order for breakfast. It was accurate and on time but again the mic was at 68 degrees.

9.Went to the theater to go to what was advertised as a seminar about the towns we would visit shopping excursions wildlife. etc. I sat through a sham wow style presentation of jewelry stores and was pitched diamonds nothing really about anything but jewelry. I did not go on a cruise to Alaska to get a sales pitch from a 25 year old sham wow kid.

10. Was pitched "to get the best seats to see the glacier you can pay althea $60.pp to sit in the exclusive glacier seats. I  passed sat on the stern and saw it all.

11. On debarkation the lost my luggage. It took an hour to find out the color coded baggage system had issues. Cream 5 Looked a lot like Gold 5 to the baggage handlers.

My general impression of the attitude of this cruise line was shut up, get in line, give us your money.

I think 30% of the crew was personable and worked hard. 40 % were marking time and the other 30% could care less your just a F ing American.

I filled out a survey for princess but never heard from them. they really only care about milking you out of as much $$ as they can.

Really very disappointing for a first time cruiser and I doubt I would ever do it again. Total with a few trinket the entire cruise cost $5,700. That's a lot to pay to have a bad time..

my favorite part of the cruise was everything, seeing whales as we were cruising, all the ports, and the most awesome site was Glaicer Bay and the icebergs. Beautiful country and wildlife. Locals at the ports were very friendly.

Brandt's Review by brandtpg1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: North America

The best part of the cruise was watching the interaction between Matt (the cruise director) and Kaylee (the assistant cruise director). The are a great complement to each other.

Improvements to the cruise is the disembarkation process at the very end of the cruise. Too much waiting, for too many people, going too many places all at once.

Recommendations: I would recommend this cruise to a friend.

The activities on board were very limited, and the shows interfered with dinner. We went to late dinner and we missed a lot of the shows. Organization for disembarkement was very slow and we lost most of the day.

Great Cruise- Repeat itinerary of our wedding 10 years previous by kmaio

Loved the ship and the on-board service. Shows/entertainment was the only area that they could have improved on.  Princess runs a clean, well maintained, and efficient product that we come back to again and again.

Nice 7 day cruise by ezstreet655

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Mexico

The food, entertainment, services, and most everything was superior.  However,

the "anytime dining" was almost a joke.  Waiting in long lines to dine is not what

is expected on cruises.  This keeps it from being a five star experience.  And

leaving Cabo after only a half day is ridiculous.  They must figure a way to return

to LA the final day in order to have a full day in Cabo - the best cruise port.  Also,

having a formal night on a "at port" day is too much to handle.
