Princess takes us to Hawaii.....AGAIN! by cruznuts

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Hawaii

Overall, we had a wonderful time (pretty hard NOT to have a good time cruising!) and found just what we were looking for. I don't think the MDR food in the Botticelli Dining Room was as good as we remembered from past Princess cruises, nor was the entertainment commensurate with what we've come to expect from Princess, but none of it was what I'd call bad or even substandard, just not quite to the level we expected. To end on a positive, overall the cruise met our expectations due to the high level of service one expects and RECEIVES from Princess, from the Captain on down to the stateroom attendants. I'd recommend this cruise to anyone who enjoys lots of relaxing sea days, with the beautiful and picturesque Hawaiian paradise as the "middle eight". Bon Voyage!

Not expressed. Evening suppers seem repetitive, need new pastry chef.....same old, same old. Excursions over priced and not explained well. They expect you to book and be disappointed. Booked five tours, disappointed.. took a tour off cruise and it turned out beautifully.worthwhile.

Relaxing and enjoyable by RetiredRay

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Hawaii

This was our second Hawaii trip on the Ruby (Nov 2015). I am only giving a quick overview, I posted on the APP chat a few times and uploaded some pictures during the trip. 24 March 2019 we arrived at the terminal about 11:15, walked passed the line of people waiting to be told where to go, walked up to the counter (we are elite), checked in, got a boarding number, slowly walked through security (too many idiots trying to carry on all their bags and needing help and/or not being prepared for the security rules), walked by the boarding area and it was now open. Got to the Main Dining Room (MDR) at 11:45 and waited until 12:00 opening time. Ship made several announcements that staterooms would be available at 2 PM and they would announce when (actual was 1:30), and still people tried to go into their rooms and complained that they were not allowed to do so. Folks, we boarded early, quit the complaining! Weather was iffy for the first three days and then we had nice pool weather for most of the trip. Dinner in the Michelangelo was good, another new menu that was served for the first time, a mix of good and bad. We had two areas that had fair waiters, but we found some excellent waiters, Neil and Stefani at table 224, that worked very hard to get us good dinners or to correct what we did not like in the way of entrees. Neil was very outgoing and made dinners fun (plus we talked with him at several other locations during the day). Breakfast was mostly in the Da Vinci and waiters ran from excellent to poor and about half way through the trip we started asking for table 424 because Norlan was the only waiter that was fun, would try to get special requests (and usually could, unlike the others), and got orders right the first time. We did eat breakfast twice in the Lido Buffet, Ho-Hum. Not bad, but not great either. Now lunch, Buffet had a good lunch, I ate there most of the time and was very satisfied (they have a “taco” bar that is really tostadas), and the old Trident Grill is now a Salty Dog and has (to me) a better menu, including real street tacos (chicken or sweet potato) that you can ask to be modified. Room, standard balcony with the shorter table, our steward Marlon was averagely good, what we expect from Princess. Entertainment was a bit better during the daytime, not great, but they did have some earlier entertainment in the piazza a few days. Richard Sulek, Poland, Piano, great listening music. Souvenir Duo, two Hungarians, piano and guitar/mouth piano, great listening music with some dancing. And of course Tiki Dave and occasionally wife Leialhoa, mix of music (guitar and steel guitar) and a lot of dancing. Mark, naturalist, had some good talks on a variety of subjects. Shows were a mix of good and bad and depended on your tastes. But we overall were happy with most of the shows. Disembarkation was not too bad, did customs before getting bags which was nice. Overall a nice trip, would do it again.

Relaxing California Coastline Cruise by boltonsmb

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We've been on 2 Royal Caribbean Cruises and this was our first with Princess. Overall we would go with either again and enjoyed this enough to put a deposit on a future cruise. They do a Military Personnel Onboard Credit Program, which we appreciated, since my husband is retired military. Internet worked well enough for us, our water packages were waiting for us in our room, but my husband might not get the soda package again on Princess, based on how inconvenient it was to use. The ship experience was nice to have a bigger ship that had been recently remodeled, since our last cruise with Royal was a smaller and much older ship. However, on this ship with Princess, twice we had toilets stop working in our room for a few hours. This was a problem on two floors the first time and I don't know how widespread the 2nd time, but at least a few rooms were affected by it the 2nd time. They did fix them within a few hours, but definitely not an ideal situation.

In my experience, Princess is a gamble. You may get great service or it could be awful. This trip was very good and I have no complaints at all!

Good Cruise for OLD Cruisers by MikeAndNick

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Princess Ruby is a nice ship and does food the correct way. The afternoon tea was very nice touch. The main problem with the curise is half the staff was great and half was not very good. The other problem that might keep us off the ship in the future is I am 59 years old and felt the music and activities were geared for people older than me. An example is their Rock and Roll Trivia as 50's rock and roll. I expected Rock and Roll to be 60's and 70's at the latest. The late night club music had the same problem. Thier activities were mainly trivia, bingo and art auctions. It would have been nice to have activies for people between 20 and 60. If you want a cruise to relax and eat this is the one for you. If you want things to do this is not the cruise for you.

Cabin Riviera 720. This... by nanseab

Sail date: /
Ship: Ruby Princess

Cabin Riviera 720. This is a great location but, still has it's cons. It's a few doors down from an adults only pool, Fabulous small deck and bar. One floor below Horizon and Caribe buffets. 7floors directly below Club Fusion (Bingo and trivia). And 8 floors below Boticellis dining room. The cons 1) the ship was rocking A LOT. Thank goodness for full strength dramamine. I took 1 a day to Cabo and 2 a day on the way home. 2) If you're into entertainment or anything other than food...it's sooo far from everything else. If we had the kids, we would opt to be closest to a kid friendly pool or kids club. Excellent dining room choices and service. We didn't miss any meals here. Horizon buffet is much better than Caribe Cafe. Breakfast buffet choices are much better than lunch. Desserts were terrible and stale. The food, desserts and expressos are excellent at the International Cafe. But, we did not enjoy the blended ice coffees. The service was also excellent here. We loved the entertainment this cruise. Comedian AJ Jamal was hilarious. We absolutely recommend seeing his shows. We saw 2 different shows and he really made our trip very enjoyable. We also loved Teacake's diva show. I was grooving the entire time. She can sing with the best of them. I purchased her downloads, too. Staff and service was excellent. Wonderful cruise.

Princess is King! by reciaseegy88

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

This was a perfect getaway for my husband and I to celebrate 10 years of marriage. We left the kids with grandma and grandpa and enjoyed 5 days of relation, wonderful food, fun entertainment and top notch service. We tried a cruise with another cruise line and this one was much more our style and our speed. We loved our cruise and will definitely be cruising with princess again!
