Princess Cruises is geared toward the elderly by kreeativ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Alaska was absolutely breathtaking, but the ship left much to be desired. There was nothing to do on the ship if you were over 17 and under 65. The activities offered included knitting, afternoon tea and not much other than those types of activities. Everything closed at 10pm, and half the hot tubs and one pool were closed at all times. The shows on the tv in the mini suite were old Love Boat reruns and the movies were at least a year old and were movies we saw on NCL last year. When we arrived on the ship, there was no celebration like we are used to on NCL, and the same goes for when we stopped in port. Princess had nothing going on, but right across the port NCL had dancers, music and jugglers as people left the ship to go into port. The biggest issue I had was with Princess taking money from my credit card and when it was supposed to be refunded, they continued to try to take money from my card, which I had to finally take off file. Again, the money was supposed to be refunded but I was getting letters and calls in my room stating they couldn't access my card. I had to deal with just about everyone at the front desk due to this issue. Each person gave me a different answer to what was going on and when it would be fixed. There was no consistency or across the board resolution and I finally had to speak to the finance manager to get the correct answer as to what was going on. The first girl who "helped" me didn't even go through the process of trying to get things fixed. The only person who knew her job was a girl named Odeth. I had to visit the front desk at least half a dozen times in two days! I cancelled plans with NCL and booked with Princess, which I feel was a HUGE MISTAKE! We will NEVER give Princess another chance. Alaska was great, Princess was HORRIBLE. I will say, the staff was great, we loved our Steward and the food was good. It is obviously a corporate problem with training and inconsistent policies. We will only go NCL from now on! I forgot to mention, it is Princess' 50th year Anniversary and there was nothing special going on.

Great Spring Getaway on the Pacific Coast by 2lovecruising

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Since we are tired of the long trips to Europe and the Caribbean, we enjoy the Princess ships that sail the Pacific Ocean by the USA and cruise to our beautiful California cities. Since we live in Orange County and close to the LA port, we have taken this cruise three times: on the Sapphire Princess, Celebrity Century (now sold), and the most recent Ruby Princess (April, 2015).

We enjoy exploring the Northern California cities: The delicious seafood restaurants, Buena Vista for Irish Coffee, and exciting Aquarium in San Francisco; the Museum of Art and historical courthouse in Santa Barbara; and all the wonderful activites (museums, zoo, Seaport Village, Gas Light District, Old Town) San Diego has to offer. Mexico offers beautiful, colorful pottery for your kitchen, at a low cost. The people on the ship are travelers and a delight to talk about everything.

The Ruby is one of our favorite ships from Princess (we have been on nine different ships with 13 cruises) as it is a good size (3000 guests), and has the beautiful Skywalker Lounge on deck 18 with a great panoramic view; and the delightful Sabatini's Restaurant on deck 16 with delicious food and excellent service, at a great price ($25.00).

We want Princess to keep her ships on our Pacific Coast.  We have another Pacific coast cruise scheduled in October on the Crown Princess ( another great ship like the Ruby) for our 30th wedding anniversary,  and look forward to a wonderful and fun time!

Christmas in the Caribbean by mamaJ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was my first cruise, so I can't compare to anything else and I was unsure if I would like cruising... BUT.....Love.We had an amazing time on our cruise! The Ruby is beautiful, and the holiday decorations just added to it!! The ship is clean and well maintained!!

We ( 8 of us aged 12-79 yrs old)  were at the port and boarded within about 20 mins of arrival. Our inside cabins were bigger than expected, and very clean.

We found the food to be  very good and a huge variety. The buffets were good, only ate there for breakfast and lunch, as well as late night binging!!!   In  the Michelangelo's dining room, we received EXELLENT service from Anthony ,& Tirso. They are a great team, and at the top of their game, when it comes to full on service. We ate so much, and enjoyed just about all of it!!! Crown Grill was delish, and we ate  6 courses of great food!!

In general the staff was informative and helpful at every turn.  We were greeted warmly and made to feel very welcome.

We did not book excursions, as the research I did before our trip showed it would be cheaper to cab it  to our desired destinations on the islands we visited. For our taste the excursions were to restrictive .  We like to experience island life like the locals do .  We wanted to hit the beaches, and eat locally, and were able to meet up with friends in St. Maarten. We loved each port, for various reasons, and had a great time in each.

Our days at sea were very enjoyable, we had beautiful sunny weather. Loved the music by the pool, or you could watch movies at another pool all day. Movies under the stars were amazing. We were served popcorn, pizza, and cookies and milk!

The entertainment staff was fun, and had activities for all. The shopping deal on the ship were good ( if your into that sort of thing). Was able to pick up souvenir T-shirts etc. for $10

My husband was invited to sing in the Wheelhouse pub, and also entered and won the Karaoke competition!!

We put deposits down on  a future cruise, can't wait to book it!

We were treated like royalty, for a week, and it was so hard to come back to the cold hard reality of a Canadian, winterCrying

Great short excursion. by Caribbeanforme

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Princess Cays is a beautiful unspoiled little island and was the perfect first stop to 'kick back', relax and start being pampered.

Grand Turk island was very interesting and I recommend a tour.  Livestock roam freely and the only fences are to keep the horses & donkeys out, not in.

The employees of Princess were all very attentive and friendly.

Princess takes us to Hawaii.....AGAIN! by cruznuts

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Hawaii

Overall, we had a wonderful time (pretty hard NOT to have a good time cruising!) and found just what we were looking for. I don't think the MDR food in the Botticelli Dining Room was as good as we remembered from past Princess cruises, nor was the entertainment commensurate with what we've come to expect from Princess, but none of it was what I'd call bad or even substandard, just not quite to the level we expected. To end on a positive, overall the cruise met our expectations due to the high level of service one expects and RECEIVES from Princess, from the Captain on down to the stateroom attendants. I'd recommend this cruise to anyone who enjoys lots of relaxing sea days, with the beautiful and picturesque Hawaiian paradise as the "middle eight". Bon Voyage!

First cruise is a success by chrissi0605

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We relaxed, ate, and drank! Our room was great for an interior. The steward too great care of the room for us. The ship is beautiful! I was not impressed with the buffet. There was lots of choices. But it was like eating at the Country Buffet. Breakfast at the buffet was the same foods everyday. Don’t waste your time paying for the fining. The food in the dining room was amazing and you didn’t have to pay for it. International cafe food was really good. I preferred it for breakfast and lunch. Vines wine bar was the best bar by far. All the bartenders at the other bars were not very friendly, they didn’t greet you, and were very slow serving. Movies under the stars was great. They were doing some work on the ship of painting and varnishing. The smell from the varnish was very very strong. That seems like something that should be done when passengers are not on board.

Better than Good Alaskan Cruise by 3GStew

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

So many people consider this to be a 'Bucket List' cruise. But it seems too many people wait until they can't carry their own bucket. Go while you can get out and make the most of where you are.

Alaskan Cruise by KMiller4072

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was my traveling companions first cruise and I was convinced it was her last! When we arrived home on Sunday she was already talking about planning another one for next year!! What a surprise! I guess that says it all. Since I have a Platinum card with Princess you know how I feel about cruises. I love how easy they are. This was my third trip to Alaska and it is the state you never get tired of seeing.

North to Alaska by jgoodfellow

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

So this was our first cruise ever. The weather was awesome sunny and even hot.. The towns were fun and Glacier bay was really something to see. For the most part the food was good and Our cabin Steward was over the top helpful and kept things perfectly clean.

But......

1. no water package in room. I was told email our corporate office.

2. No bathrobes. I was told they were being washed

3. Complimentary to go coffee mugs took 3 trips to get finally I complained and the brought them to our room.

4.second day no bath robe was told we were not on the list to get them. ( our steward took care of that one for us.)

5. Aft bartender lady was extremely incompetent Berated other crew members in front of passengers. Rude to guest "I can't remember how to make that. Can you choose another one." to one guest. Then told my wife "I don't have the right glass to make that. And when I ordered an Irish coffee. "I have to walk all the down there to get coffee." SERIOUS exact quotes.

6. The "Share dinner " looked good but was all show no substance 6 courses of less the Denny's quality food. Staff there was very nice but the food sucked. The beef was very tough. I had a hard time cutting through. The Buffet was better. and it took a long time.

7.Room service was sub par. Tried on many occasions to order the phone just rang. Once they did answer they man was agitated. I order a club house he said "it will take an hour." I said fine he exhaled and said "fires chips or cole slaw?" I said fries and Ia glass of milk. Ninety minutes later it shows up. Half a sandwich with a glass of room temperature milk. Its sucked.

8. I place an online room service order for breakfast. It was accurate and on time but again the mic was at 68 degrees.

9.Went to the theater to go to what was advertised as a seminar about the towns we would visit shopping excursions wildlife. etc. I sat through a sham wow style presentation of jewelry stores and was pitched diamonds nothing really about anything but jewelry. I did not go on a cruise to Alaska to get a sales pitch from a 25 year old sham wow kid.

10. Was pitched "to get the best seats to see the glacier you can pay althea $60.pp to sit in the exclusive glacier seats. I  passed sat on the stern and saw it all.

11. On debarkation the lost my luggage. It took an hour to find out the color coded baggage system had issues. Cream 5 Looked a lot like Gold 5 to the baggage handlers.

My general impression of the attitude of this cruise line was shut up, get in line, give us your money.

I think 30% of the crew was personable and worked hard. 40 % were marking time and the other 30% could care less your just a F ing American.

I filled out a survey for princess but never heard from them. they really only care about milking you out of as much $$ as they can.

Really very disappointing for a first time cruiser and I doubt I would ever do it again. Total with a few trinket the entire cruise cost $5,700. That's a lot to pay to have a bad time..

Mexico cruise by Myche11e

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Mexico

Had a great time on the cruise and all the ports.  But unfortunately on the last night 3 out of the 5 of us traveling got sick.  The cruise line was accommodated us by getting us a wheelchair for 1 person In our group that was unable to walk. I got sick A day after we got back. Come to find out we all had the Norovirus.  I guess that explained why they have so much purell on the ship.
