Sail date: June 21, 2011

Ship: Ruby Princess

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Family (older children)

Review summary

The Ruby Princess is a nice cruise liner with pleasant rooms, good dining and friendly staff. The ports of call were pretty nice except for Cannes, where the town had little to offer and there was not enough time to go to Nice. The onboard entertainment was substandard.

Ports of call

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

3 out of 5
Livorno is a pit, Pisa was OK, and Florence was too far away..
Don't Miss: Pisa.

Naples, Italy

3 out of 5
Naples is a pit, but Pompeii was worth it.
Don't Miss: Pompeii

Mykonos, Greece

3 out of 5
Nice beaches.
Don't Miss: We took a bus, which was OK, but we really should have rented scooters.

Istanbul, Turkey

5 out of 5
Very interesting mix of muslim and western culture.
Don't Miss: the mosques.

Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey

Nothing but shops.
Don't Miss: Nothing.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

5 out of 5
We took a cab to Athens and were ripped off. We took a train back and found the ride interesting (although crowded).
Don't Miss: Acropolis

Cannes, France

1 out of 5
You can skip Cannes - the stpo is too short to go to Nice.
Don't Miss: We should have just gone to the beaches.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
You need more than one day to see Rome, so start your trip off there before going to Venice.
Don't Miss: Lots of things.

Venice, Italy

5 out of 5
There was a long walk to the ship from the water bus stop. If the cruise line had told us, we would have taken their launch service from St Mark's square.
Don't Miss: walk through town and ride a water bus.

Pros: The ports of call, crise ship

Cons: Nickel and diming on cruise amenities, poor entertainment
