9 Night Classic Crossing Eastbound (New York To Rotterdam)
Sail Date: July 12, 2011
Ship: Rotterdam
Cabin Type: Oceanview
Traveled As: Couple

The ship layout was odd and sometimes confusing. You could not access certain areas of the ship easily. Often had to go up or down a floor just to get past blocked area, then would have to return up or down another flight of steps to reach your intended destination.

Entertainment

No variety. The entertainment was mediocre at best. The best thing was the Pasadena Roof Top Orchestra, which we were told were not normally a part of the cruise entertainment. The "Showroom at Sea" dancers consisted of two girls. The "showroom at Sea" singers consisted of 4 male singers and 2 female singers who were not nearly as good as the entertainers we have had on other cruise ships. Lorna Luff was a joke (not intentionally). Would have been nice to have a comedian, or ship participation activities (Games, Newlywed Games, Karaoke) only trivia and Bingo was available.

Service and Staff

One of our table mates had an incident one night with a rude waiter, but other than that everything was ok as far as the friendliness was concerned. The "24hr" room service never answered the phone. In fact no one ever answered any of the phones any time I called for service, from movie rentals to reservations in the dining room. One night it took 2 hours to order a movie and when it came it was too damaged to work. I found out that if I wanted room service I had to walk to the reception desk and order it and wait about an hour for it to come to the room.

Ship Quality

While the layout was odd, the public areas were very clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

My Fiance enjoyed having a bathtub. The room was average beyond that.

Don't Miss: Blarney Castle

Pros: Transport from New York to Netherlands for good price.

Cons: Daily itenerary was less than stellar. No diversity in activities.

Recommends Rotterdam? No.
