The best ship of the Holland America Line fleet. Very clean, great cabins, great crew and yummy food. We stayed in Vista Suite 6240 with a very large balcony.

Over all trip was fabulous. I do have a complaint on the nail service I received. There is a 14 day chipping guarantee. My nails began to chip on day 2. I would not have mentioned this, but 6 days later 4 of my nails are chipping. I would like to discuss a refund for on this service.

the cruise worked for us with my husband's physical limitations. Great room and placement on the ship and near elevators. Staff extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for us. They made the cruise ..special!

Cruise line was very comfortable and the service impeccable unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions we were unable to visit the Normandy ports but were compensated adequately for the disappointment....the food was not quite up to standard unfort. by normagill

Very enjoyable...it was made so by the good service of all members of the crew. It did cater to an older clientele.

Very relaxing cruise by Alisonf53

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Rotterdam Retired / Destination: Transatlantic

I have sailed on over 100 cruises and this was Holland America's last roundtrip sailing from Tampa so I decided to give it one more try. I am glad I did as it was very relaxing and smooth sailing. Food was way above average. Hardly any kids on board but many older people. The onboard stores were pitiful as there was nothing to buy except expensive jewelry, liquor or HAL cruise clothes. They did have "happy hour' every night where you could buy your second alcoholic drink for $2. I hope HAL comes back to Tampa again.

Very Happy HAL First Timer by kristinagarl

Ship: Rotterdam Retired / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Embarkation/debarkation fast n easy; vista suite very nice; bars were great with no long waits; MDR very good and on point; Pizza bar best on boat so far; Lido buffet quite good, no trouble finding seats; no chair hogging on deck 8 aft pool area; Canaletto mediocre; Pinnacle Grill was spectacular food and service; great room stewards; not alot for kids to do but that's great so there isn't many kids. Great boat for relaxing and reconnecting with significant other. WONDERFUL VACATION OVERALL!!!

I want to say how... by hvacrv46

Ship: Rotterdam Retired

I want to say how impressed we were with the Pinnacle Grill. The food was surpassed only by the service. Deny and his assistants were perfect. From the first presentation to the end of desert everything was perfect. I could do this every night. We have a large party cruising (10) and we all love it.

Wonderful by Behaman

Having only cruised 3 times this was the best cruise we took. We met many fun loving people on the ship at the Crows Nest, shared dining table with others during dinner and met folks on the excursions. This is a mid-size ship 1400 guests so it never seemed crowded. We read that only "old" people cruise on HAL. This was not true on this cruise although it was during spring break. We met families and older people but also teenagers. This was not a party ship like some on Carnival can be. Not being derogratory about Carnival as we have had fun crusies with them. HAL felt like a step above although not as stimulating. Did not like the port of Costa Maya and next time would take a tour of Roatan Island. Overall an excellent cruise.

This was a solo cruise... by JT1962

Sail date: /
Ship: Rotterdam Retired

This was a solo cruise for me and my second time on the Rotterdam (and HAL). I booked this cruise primarily for the itinerary and it was the best value for the timeframe I needed, including airfare. I was not impressed with this ship the first time, so my expectations were not very high for this cruise. The itinerary was very good, but nothing else really stood out as special. Being solo, I did not eat in the dining room or any specialty restaurants. I realize food is very subjective, but overall I found the food at the Lido just average. The buffet set up is a nightmare (and was on my previous cruise as well). I have never been on another cruise line that uses workers to serve the food at the buffet. There was no starting point for the line and people were coming from both directions and the servers seemed to just serve whoever walked up with no rhyme or reason. Once you did get a servers attention the seemed to be rushing you and handing your plate back before you had a chance to see what was further down the line. I also never saw any trays being used, so if you got a salad, entree, sides, dessert and bread, you had to juggle several plates or take one at a time to the table and return to stand in line again. The one upside was the Dive In burger and fries was by far the best food I had all week. The entertainment on this ship is also lacking, in my opinion. There is no venue for nightly upbeat music and no live band for sail away parties or poolside. The main nightly entertainment was hit or miss - a comedian who was ok, a comedy magician that was ok, a BBC movie with live music and 2 different performances by Post Modern Jukebox. I thought the 2nd PMJ performance was much better than the first, but sadly the theater was only about 35% full since many did not seem to care for the first night’s performance, as I saw several leave early. Overall I had a good time as my primary purpose was a solo getaway to spend some time in ports I enjoy. I might sail this ship, or HAL, in the future if the itinerary and price was right, but overall I will probably stick with Carnival or Royal Caribbean for most of my cruises in the future due to the better food and entertainment options.

Wonderful Cruise by Buffyd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rotterdam Retired / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise director was very straight forward and did not try and act like a comedian, as some other's have done. The entertainment was good and the food was excellent. We were very lucky to have good weather and smooth sailing for the whole cruise. I was in a party of 8, most all my family and a few others. We ALL enjoyed it and had a good time. Would go on Holland America Rotterdam again.

I have told at least 40 people already about our trip on the cruise 🚢. I am guessing that they got the picture and want to try it.

We are just getting off... by atkins4sc

Sail date: /
Ship: Rotterdam Retired

We are just getting off Rotterdam for a 7 day Western Caribbean Cruise. We really enjoyed this ship, the staff and service. She is well maintained and was constantly being cleaned. I really like the smaller ship and how easy it was to get on and off the ship. The Lido food was really good, as were the specialty restaurants. The ports were good and in Guatamala an excursion would be a good idea. We are in our early 50's and were right in the middle of the age range. We met many super nice guests and left feeling very relaxed.

We loved the cruise culture that Holland America provided. My small family were able to relax and have a calm and enjoyable time together. Plenty of interests available to all of us. Wonderful wonderful cruise line and the destinations were fantastic! Unforgettable experience. The cruise ship decks were just beautiful day and night.

Very relaxing cruise; great cultural excursions by woodnpotter

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rotterdam Retired / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a short get away from the cold weather. The choice of this itinerary was because we wanted to see some cultural sites and did not care about beach and bar visits like the cruises to the islands. We would certainly consider this one again. The ease and laid back relaxation is what we have come to expect and appreciate from Holland America.
