Review summary

This was the second week of a back-to-back on Princess Regal. They got everything right. I used to say Princess served hotel food - well, not anymore. Everything was delicious. Lots of variety in both the buffets and sit down restaurants. And, they have added specialty nights in the buffet restaurant: Crab Shack and Fondue (at an additional charge). We did not try the Fondue night but the Crab Shack was more than anyone could consume and included several choices of entrees. We ate in Sabatini's and the Steakhouse. Both were terrific! A new Italian pizza restaurant(free of charge) was added and was excellent. There were other venues we did not get a chance to try.

We chose anytime dining. There is a reservation phone line for the anytime dining but we were never able to get a reservation, even when we called within the first half hour. However, our wait was never more than a few minutes. The downside of this is you never get the same waiter and so each night you have to tell them your drink preference, etc. All Princess personnel were friendly and attentive. The ship was stunning. The downside, and there's always a downside, is: no promenade on this ship, I believe the balcony rooms are smaller, and the ship is LARGE. Especially when you are in the very front of the ship as we were. Oh, and there are no tables to place your drinks on in the theater so you must hold them until the end of the performance - kinda inconvenient. Also, there is no Skywalker's Lounge and we always loved sitting there before dinner and taking in the view with a pre-dinner drink. A big improvement in my mind, is the bar staff are no longer pushing drinks but always nearby when you want one.

Cabin / Stateroom

The cabin seemed smaller than the older class of ships. However, there was a bigger shower. Room was really cluttered with 2 chairs in it - we were always moving a chair to get to something and the towels were like drying yourself with a bath mat - no softness and no nap. Our steward, Bob, was excellent, though.

Ship tip

Coffee cards are now usable in the gelatoria. A sundae or 3 scoops of gelato are one punch.
