Regal Princess Retired Cruise Review to Panama Canal, Central America
Review SummaryWe were passengers on the Feb 19 - Panama canal cruise that was cancelled. According to Princess, the ship "touched bottom" while leaving Hutalco MX on Feb 18. We heard that the ship had a hull breach and has been in dry dock for over a week for repairs. This trip is one that we have planned and saved for several years. We were very disappointed, but glad to be safe. We were told Tue evening that the cruise was cancelled and we would be sent home on Wed. We found a letter with the travel arrangements in the mail box outside the room around 10PM Tue night and we were supposed to have our luggage outside the cabin by midnight (Tags showed up at 11:30). We were supposed to ride on a bus to Mexico City for 6+ hours (some passengers were on the bus almost 12 hours) and go directly home. We were never consulted or given alternatives and when we met with the Princess Care Team representative, she told us that the arrangements they made for us were the best that they could do. If we wanted to make alternate arrangements we were on our own and Princess may or may not reimburse us. We decided we were on vacation and remained in Acapulco for a few days and flew home from Acapulco. Based on the comments from others, we made the right decision. If Princess reimburses us for our out-of-pocket airfare, transfers and the non-refundable tickets we have from San Juan, the 35% on the next Princess cruise is more than adequate to compensate for a busted vacation. If not, any "discount" on a Princess ship is not important because we will never use Princess again!!
