Review Summary

We were excited to be taking an Alaskan cruise. When we first went aboard we were excited. However things started to turn for the worst. Alot of the staff seemed to be rude to the guest. We then later found out from people that this ship has been sold to another cruise line that is why the staff is being rude. The food in the dining hall was great no matter what time you go. the only problem was thatfor lunch and breakfast, if you didnt get seated with your dinner waiters, the waiters were rude. A couple who has been on over 30 cruises with Princess said this is the worst service they have ever seen and could not belive how rude people were. They even said that it is because the ship is being sold. On a good note however our waiters for dinner were great. They would have our drinks ready when we came in and knew what we prefered by the third day. The other problem we had was that we had a late dinning seating. The problem was that as soon as the early dinning started the ship kinda "closed" there were nothing to do for us between 5:30 till 7. My son loved the kids zone even though there were only 4 kids on the cruise. He was up there everyday to have fun. The buffet food was well below par. But the pizza kitchen had some good pizza's. However we noticed that the staff in the pizza kitchen were always rude. They never smiled and seemed bothered when you ask them for something.

Ship Experiences

Food and Dining

best food i ever had on a cruise was in the main dinning hall. buffet was well below par with left overs from the dinner befor and sandwiches that soggy and tasteless

Some shows were great enspecialy piano man. other shows were avarage. The activities on ship were good except for the auction that seemed to happen every day. activites for the late dinning seating were nil after 5 when the early dinning sits. but after dinning it was ok. through out the day the did have alot to do.

Children's Programs

son loved it. he is 8 and loved that he painted, made shirts, played video games, and board game. the staff attitude were great and knew how to deal with a ADHD child.

Service and Staff

Besides your waiting staff for dinner everone seemed to be bothered by asking them for help or sugestion. Some of the bar staff was great but the bar tenders them selfs seemed a bit rude. When my wife was sea sick at night I called the front desk and asked for some pills, they said to puchase them at the gift shop. i imformed them that the gift shop was closed and they stated that they open back up in the morning and i just have to wait till then. I been on other cruises and they have them at the front desk and are willing to walk to your room to give them to you. this staff wasnt even able to offer us any.

Ship Quality

the ship shows her age poorly, the casino looks like something that was in the 70's. The ship was clean in all the bar areas but towards the aft of the ship i noticed that garbage was always left out. The overall layout was ok but the problem was that the elvators were constantly broke down leaving older guest and wheel chair bound to wait on for the only working elevator.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
size was good for us with my wife, son and I. however it did get a little crampt when we all were in there getting ready. Great beds and pillows.

Pros: main dining hall waiters, food in dining hall was awsome, Martini bar, kids area

Cons: some staff, buffet food, activities for late dinning seating

Recommends Regal Princess Retired? No.
