We thoroughly enjoyed our week aboard Cunard's Queen Victoria.   The customer service was excellent -our bags were waiting for us at our stateroom when we boarded.  The tours we purchased from the ship were excellent and we feel the best way to see Istanbul.  The two days in Istanbul were perfect; we had plenty of time in Volos to charter a sailboat for the day; a few extra hours in Mykonos would have been nice - but I'm not sure anyone ever wants to leave Mykonos.  Good options for food, excellent food in specialty restaurant, the four star rating is due to entertainment.   We really like the comedian; however, overall the entertainment offered did not compare with NCL's Epic - Blue Man Group.  The balcony cabin was as expected -no complaints.   We will definitely consider sailing with Cunard again.

Our first cruise, hooked on Cunard by BRB

Our first cruise and we are now spoiled.  I don't know if there could possibly be a better way to vacation. The Cunard crew was wonderful.  The Queen Victoria was a great place to say for the week while visiting such beautiful places.  We are looking forward to our next cruise with Cunard.

Queens Grill is the way to go, food, staff and service 1st class plus great promotion for the 175 year!!

Poor Experience by emmasardina27

Let me tell you this was our first cruise with Cunard and our over 27 with other lines.  By far, it was one with more bad experiences.  It is a pity that although you have a pretty and comfortable ship the service has to be so, so.  Do you train your staff? By service I mean your waiters, assistants, room Stewards, Maitre D', Purser's Desk, etc, it seems no one is even teaching them how to provide these services.  We had a terrible experience with your Purser's Desk staff, we went to ask them to make a call for us to make reservation at the seafood restaurant BotaFumeiro (since I did not have my phone, I thought I lost it in Florence, Thank God I found it three days later) and the lady told us that they didn't provide those services, when I heard that I was chocked, but she did tell me I can show you how you can make a call from your room (when she said that, I almost told her, lady do you think I am stupid, but I didn't do it), then she said that it will cost us $4.50 per minute.  These type of services we got it in other cruise lines, e.g. NCL, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.  One year we were in NCL and we were going to fly to Paris to stay there a week and that was the year that Paris had the Transportation Strike, well the Purser's Desk from NCL called us and they let us know what was happening and they helped us re-arranged our trip and they did everything for us for FREE.  My other questions to the lady at the Purser's Desk was, can you print our Boarding Passes for our flight from Venice to US and once again we got the same answer from her.  Our Concierge Travel, Mr. Brian Mitchell from Luxury Cruises, was the one to advise us to go the Concierge Desk and to request the service.  We did get an answer from the Purser's Desk, they told us that in order for us to print the boarding passes, we needed to get their Internet Package.  

Our first bad experience was the first night we went to the Britannia Restaurant, Second Seating at Table 543.  When we got to our table we didn't like it and we went and told Maitre D' Thomas to help us find another table, we understood that it was the first night and that it was going to be hard for him to do it that night, but what it made us mad was that Mr. Thomas did not take any interest in helping us. We had the same experience about three years ago in the Liberty of the Seas from Royal Caribbean, however, their Maitre D' took interest right away and helped us find another table by the second day.  That was the service we were expecting from Mr. Thomas.  Every night we got to the dining room  he always had the same answer, I am sorry I don't have one for you.  However, the third  or fourth night he brought a couple to our table to see if they liked the table and of course, they said No.  We told Thomas that the second table next to ours was empty that no one was there and he said oh no they will come, well the couple assigned to that table never showed up, but he gave the table to two Asian ladies.  But the service that we received from the Waiter of Table 543 was Excellent, his name is Ivan and his assistant waiter Jose was also excellent.  We commended very highly both of them as well as Carola the Head Waiter, she should be the Maitre D' not Mr. Thomas.  Finally, the second day of our second week, Mr. Thomas gave us another table (Table 515), the Waiter Ray was good but as not as good as Ivan, however, his assistant was not good at all, Ray had to do everything.  These are small examples because I am sure you have heard these type of story from other passengers.  We did go to one of your Pay Restaurant Verandah (I hope I have the right spelling) and the service that we received from Daniella the waitress as well as from their Maitre D' Bryan was excellent and the food was spectacular.  Why can you have staff like them working at your regular restaurants.

There were many other things wrong too.  Your in cabin TV was too small compare to other cruise lines, the shower too little, your in cabin movies system was not good, in other cruise lines, they have a list of movies that you can choose from at any time. You pride yourself of being an excellent cruise line, in a way you are, but you also nickel and dime people, many things had charges attached and these bad experiences we got, we really hope that you look into them to improve your service.  Our last bad experience we received was once again, from your Purser's Desk staff.  Two nights before of our departure in Venice, my husband went to the desk and told them that our driver that we hired was going to be waiting for us outside the terminal by 7:00 AM since our flight was leaving by 10:30 AM and we had four suitcases and two carry on, the lady told my husband that he had to carry the suitcases himself and that was when my husband got really really mad and he told her, of course, when she saw him how upset he was, then she told him that she was going to send someone to our stateroom for him to carry our suitcases until the Terminal.  But the point of this incident is that she provided the service that we requested after my husband got upset, I don't think this is right.  

I won't keep boring you, but again, it is a real shame that you don't manage this ship correctly.  It is pretty, the evening shows were excellent, your afternoon tea is great, your Spa, beauty salon are very good and it could really appeal to a lot of people if you would only take a little more time to correct these problems.

However, we will have to think about it twice before we try your line again or recommend it to our family and friends.  This was a very Expense Trip  and we were not expected to have these problems.  Overall a bad experience, especially on an 12 day cruise.

embarkation problems in Istanbul by nomzar

We stayed in Istanbul for 7 days before going on this cruise. we did not know where we have to go to embark in istanbul as it said on the internet upto the last day that embarkation point- to be decided.so we had to phone cunard office in england and after a long delay they were able to help us--so some improvement there will be highly appreciated

Very disappointed with the entire cruise. 

My name is Aris My wife Angela

One of the main disappointment was that my wife's cruises were not corrected to equal mine. Numerous calls and letters requesting correction,to your US customer relation department by me by my Travel Agent has hit a deaf ear.!!! The request was to update  Angela Stambolian records for equal sailings and nights as mine. I am sure this personnel does not treat every one equally..

Amenities: No special treatment, or amenities upgrade for Diamond member. Absolutely NOTHING special, Room is the same , service is the same. The embarkation is the same as to all.

Dining/Food: the food selection in Main restaurant is poor,  said poor selection forces passengers  to dine at alternative restaurants   Veranda restaurant and pay extra. Why, the higher cruise fair DOES NOT JUSTIFY 

The selection in Lido is slightly better than the Main Britannia restaurant.

We have requested table for two by window. Our assigned  table was table 591 Said table was in a horrible location facing the back wall of the ship with a abstracted view... During the 14 nights we dined at the assigned table only ONCE!!!

Requested change, was told that "nothing available

This was our 83 sailing. From the 83 sailings this was totally unacceptable and disappointing sailing that we have done since 1950.

And to top everything  our luggage was delivered at the Airport broken. filed a report with your port agent. NO reply!

Honestly this will be our last cruising with CUNARD I am going to cancel all future cruises I have booked with CUNARD Cruise line.

Too Formal by darksidela23

This is a cruiseline for those that like to get dressed EVERY night. They say formal and casual - should be called formal and formaler. You are treated like a criminal after 6PM if you do not have a jacket on and formal dress. Banished to the 9th floor - cant eat in the dining room or see the show.  Choices of Buffet or 1 dining room included. Drinks are top dollar with no drink packages available. Tour excursions are not all good and complaints go unanswered. Bathroom is the smallest I have ever been in.

Excellent ports, Cunard service good but not exemplary, and food hit or miss by Cruisesarefun

This was our first Cunard experience, and will likely be our last. We much prefer the Holland America quality of food and service. We did enjoy the ship's evening atmosphere of everyone dressed to a "nice" level and the ballroom dancing was something enjoyed by many, including our teens. The kids area was poor -- extremely basic - and if I had smaller kids I would not want to leave them there for any length of time. The teen program was truly terrible, and the ship just does not want kids, it seems, even older ones like mine who dressed in tux/gown on formal night and enjoy finer foods and culture. After the first evening, no teens above 14 returned to the area -- teen club is 12-17, and geared to the younger set, even though Cunard does not allow passengers under 18 to enter the dance clubs or participate in many activities.

FOOD: The food in the Britannia was really not that great: fancy names to tasteless desserts, and nightly we discovered that some entrees were fantastic while others were barely palatable. After 2 nights, we elected to eat in the Lido on night 3 for a much better food quality, and on night 4 enjoyed immensely the additional-fee Verandah restaurant, which we again paid for on night 5. We tried the Britannia again on night 6, and befell again on variable quality food -- mostly poor -- and tired service. On Holland America, we never once felt the desire to avoid the main dining room. The Baked Alaska, for example, was truly terrible, while the Creme Brûlée was a tasty albeit burnished-ahead pudding quality.

STATEROOM: Stateroom service was fine, but not exceptional. On Holland, we always are made to feel special. Here, I actually debated reducing the $11.50 pp/pd gratuity charge, but decided in the end to let it go. On past cruises, we have always left additional cash for our attendant in addition to the "optional" gratuity the ship charges. Not this trip.  On 2 mornings it was well after 12 noon that our stateroom was made up. And the halls were set up with cleaning carts by 6:0 am, left there all morning,and reappeared the same in the evening. It was really annoying and ugly. I sound picky, yet I'm not -- it was just that cluttered in the hall. Sometimes a vacuum cleaner would sit out for hours. The stateroom itself was roomy, but required we hang most clothes as it had limited shelves and few drawers. Room service was excellent, and prompt. Our pre-ordered breakfast was lost just once, and otherwise was hot on delivery.

The ship crew had a tendency to get to their deck-cleaning chores while you were still enjoying the deck. For example, on level 3 where their are wooden chase chairs (which don't recline and have thin cushions in need of replacement) for relaxing. The crew would start tying up all chairs and cushions by 6:00 pm, 3 hours before sunset. In the morning, chairs were still tied away, all cushions stowed, until after 7:30 am, sometimes later. The deck crew seemed determined to finish that task asap -- maybe so they could get to free time? They usually spoke to their coworkers in their native tongue, even though Cunard White Star policy says that is not permitted. (In fact we noted this practice of non-english dialogue among several levels of crew, in the halls, having private conversations). Once I was reading in a chair and literally the crew cleaned up all chairs other than the 5 being used by passengers -- making us all feel as though we were in their way. This was the case on upper level decks as well. By sunset, there was barely a chair left untied, and the pool deck wet with mopping. Also on the decks other than 9 (Lido), used plates for glasses would sit, uncollected by a passing crew member whose job was not kitchen related - seeming as if it was not their job to clean that, and they left it for the level of staff whose job it was. 

A marked difference between Holland Am and Cunard was how the white-dressed crew showed zero interest in connecting with passengers - it was day 4 before we received a "hello" as they passed by. White uniform crew often diverted their eyes - almost stoic. 

The crew of the Queen Victoria seems tired. I wonder if this emanates from the captain, who was invisible on this trip except at invite-only receptions (each passenger is invited to one), and even then he was a stiff sort. He rarely addressed the ship over the PA. The crew was "stiff" and this showed in the Purser's (reception) Desk as well, where one particular crew member Vittoria seemed to go to of her way to tell patrons that what they requested was not policy, or not possible. She simply never smiled. It was odd. In general, the lines at the Purser's desk were quite long during the entire cruise, with 1-2 people working the desk, and another observing, even when the cue was 10 deep. On day 4 we had to solicit the intervention of a manager to get a dining credit applied to our account, a promotion we had been inquiring about since before departure. The "run around" on Cunard is annoying.

Excursions seem fairly priced, although we did our own adventures at each port. I heard from one passenger that the "Best of Santorini" excursion was the worst excursion ever in years of cruising, with a guide that was barely understandable and all driving, with inadequate free time at each stop (10 minutes at most). The Excursions desk was open ONLY in the evening between 4 - 7:30, making questions at other times impossible. There was nobody otherwise on board to answer questions about ports of call. And when we asked during the correct time. the information we received was what is written on the website -- nothing based on personal experience at a port. There were several instances of miscommunication about shuttles and transports at port, including a water taxi in Bodrum that was promised but ran only once per hour for the waiting hundreds of passengers. We walked instead. When I later asked about that, the Purser's office blamed the port. They also blamed the port for similar lack of information about the shuttle in Salerno.

All of that said, the ship was very clean and these ports were excellent. And Cunard affords a nice long port time at each. They also waited on missing passengers at each location.

Bodrum, Turkey is excellent. But bring Turkish Lira (do NOT exchange on ship) for much better pricing, as the Euro equivalent accepted by locals is a far higher price. We had previously spent a week in Turkey, so we had TL and found Bodrum a fantastic port. We independently rented a gullet/sail boat for the day through a captain, and had a fantastic full day sailing and walking the market (watch your stuff in the market -- pick pockets abound, and one group "marked" our son, but we've travelled extensively and know what to be aware of, and caught on before they got his wallet. They are teen boys working in groups of 3 & 4). We loved Bodrum.

Santorini -- a bit exhausting unless you have a specific pre-plan and get off in time to avoid the huge crowds and long line for the cable car up the hill/cliff. With a plan in place before you disembark, Santorini is a gem.

Kataklon/Olympia: we had an amazing day with a private taxi (George's Taxi) we pre-arranged and paid in cash, far cheaper than any excursion, and half the quoted price through a travel agent, in a mercedes with wifi, and we saw many areas, including Olympia ruins with a private guide (we passed Cunard excursion groups of 60 or more), Olympia Land Estate Winery (highly recommend, and not at all commercial like the one the ship excursion goes to), a beach-side cafe, shops, etc. It was a full and fantastic day.

Salerno: unexpectedly beautiful town -- it has really cleaned up since 20 years ago -- and a free shuttle from the ship to the city center. Fix Rental Car is at the port. Taxi's too, but charge high prices. Take the shuttle. Consider a ferry to Positano instead of a drive. We had pre-arranged a car through Hertz as we needed to disembark here rather than Rome, and while our car was great, we found getting to that location by the train station was a hassle. Not Cunard's doing -- just port advice.

Overall we had a fantastic trip -- this the end of 3 weeks in Europe. We met passengers from GB and Scotland who received FAR better pricing than we for the same level or superior rooms. The ship is definitely british in feel and approach. Again, it was nice after 6:00 pm to have an entire ship "dressed" fro the evening.

Shipboard experience - lame at best. If your not into Ballroom dancing, then this cruise is not for you.  Daytime activities were extremely limited and it got worse at night.  Three things to do - dance, gamble, or drink.  Most of the passengers were sitting around the lobbies looking bored or stoned!  Most of the shows during the week were performed by the same performers. Same show with different costumes.  I don't go on vacation to dress up.  I don't mind getting dressed up once in a while, but every night made it feel like work!  If you spent time in your cabin, you saw the same show over and over again.  The only thing that saved the trip was the excursions!  They were fine.

We booked this cruise after much discussion with my travel agent and .with Cunard that we would have a day in Berlin. This was verified by my travel agent. We had made arrangements to have adriver and car pick us up at the pier in Warnemunde and travel to Berlin for a full day of touring.We were to return at 8PM. Unbeknownst to us,ther..ewas a change that did not permit us to do this tour.The ship left at 5PM.You have no idea how disappointed we were without even one word from the Cunard Cruise derector. In addition,the stop in Kristiansund,Norway was pathetic.A small hick town with nothing to see or do. Why not Oslo?

The "Queen Victoria" did not have an "enclosed" swimming pool. In a nutshell, if the weather was inclement -- and there were several rainy days -- you could not use the pool. The Card Room was reserved for Bridge players only in the morning and afternoons. Since the ship did not have facilities for those who may wish to play another card game, we needed to play in the lounges.

Lap of Luxury by Hartman

This cruise exceeded our expectations. We felt in the Lap of Luxury the entire voyage. The crew is very hard working and made you feel like a valued guest at all times. There was never any "attitude" that you sometimes encounter -- except from some of the other passengers! All in all, the most relaxing vacation.

the ship was fantastic the way it is run was terrible late at every port line dancing taught but no country music at night on ship to dance to pools closed at 6 every night dress code a way to strick main shows to much the same them night after night disembarcation was a nightmare crew did not know what they were doing lineup from back of ship to front and back again waited 1.5 hours to get to customs then another .5 hr. to get off ship almost had fist fights in line up cunard excursions where very poor

Great Job under difficult circumstances by JenniferS24

Sailed QV Nov, 2011. We were scheduled to depart from Venice, due to very very think fog the ship was relocated to Trieste Italy. We had spend 3 days in Venice and the last day the fog was so thick you couldn't see 5 feet in front of you, the harbor was closed and I think Cunard did the best they could with an awful situation. We received an e-mail the night before alerting us of the change, we checked in at the port of Venice and then took a 2 hour motor coach ride to Trieste, People who were able to make it into Venice had no problem, they were met at the airport/terminal and sent on their way. Because of the fog tons of flights didn't land in Venice, Cunard had to arrange transportation for all of these people to Trieste as well as having ALL the supplies that they would need to start the voyage transported from Venice to be loaded onto the QV. It was difficult and there was chaos, but they did it all with Grace. The first 4 days of the journey we were at the highest threat level for illness, a lot of guests were sick the trip before and some(I heard) had gotten sick on my trip. This meant that you could not touch ANYTHING in the buffet, Only a small portion of the buffet was open, it was so heavily coated with plastic wrap it was difficult to see the items. It was a pain, but Cunard did what was best and safest for their guests. Having to tell someone exactly what you wanted from a salad bar was annoying, but within 4 days it went away, salt/pepper packets were replaced by shakers, Todd English/ and the Pub lunch were available in the Golden Lion. By the end of the week all the annoyances of the beginning of the cruise were forgotten. I don't know how every crew member meets you once and knows you by name when they pass you again, very impressive

The Queen Victoria has a very nice ambience, to which both passengers and crew contribute. As experienced cruisers we were surprised by the crude method of embarking passangers; disembarkment, however went smoothly. The first afternoon tea was also disorganized; instead of adding more tables the maitre d. was sending late arrivals to the buffet. From a design viewpoint the ship suffers by comparison with other Fincantieri products. The atrium is a dead loss, too small to be useful and too big to be ignored. Storage in the cabins is poor; this is the first cruise where we have had to store clothing on the floor. The shelves provided are too deep and we discovered items left over by the previous occupant of the cabin. The less said about the shower the better. We would like to contradict other critics who have faulted the Lido buffet - there is no problem with the layout and the selection and quality of the food is excellent.

The worst cruise by HarnK

Queen Victoria cannot compare to Celebrity, Regent Seven Seas or Crystal(the cruise line that I have sailed on. It is unfair to compare to the latter two since they are rated much higher and more expensive, but to compare with Celebrity, I would give a thumb down on this one. The service was not good. I have to call the steward almost every evening for bath gel and lotion which should be replenished automatically. The internet was not working half of the trip and when it does it was very slow and it really rang up my internet bill because I was charged by the time even when it was hung. The food is below standard. The chef could not even give me a good 5-minute boiled egg up till the last day of the trip. Many times I have to ask them to boil again with me clocking them. Some port of call there was no shutter bus and once we had to pay 5 euro to shutter to the city. I have the balcony cabin and the shower is the smallest I have seen. The entertainment is also very limited. In conclusion I would not travel on Queen Victoria again and I would not recommend to anyone.
