Review summary

I love the QV and have spent many days on it now. Whilst I know that Cunard is known as a luxury cruise line, it needs to ensure that its high standards and service is consistent across the ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The staff at the Southampton Cruise terminals are always helpful and board passengers as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was as excellent as ever in all the venues. Always a queue during a short break, we were lucky to get a seat during the lovely afternoon tea served in The Queens Room.

The Lido

3 out of 5

Whilst the food is great, at busy times, it can be really difficult to get a seat. Breakfast can be particularly tricky. I also get very frustrated with its inconsistency over serving teas/coffees at breakfast. If it’s too tricky for your staff to maintain, then please cease this service.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There are activities for most to enjoy. We did go to a couple of lectures by the enigmatic Maureen Ryan. It was fascinating listening and seeing her experiences as a hostess on board Cunard ships for a number of years.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The entertainment around the whole ship covers many different tastes.

Royal Court Theatre

5 out of 5

The theatres shows were to the usual high standard, although we did miss a second male singer who was missing from the Riyal Court company.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Maybe it’s perception, but as a regular traveller with Cunard, I feel that service drops a tiny bit on each journey. I understand that short cruises tend to mean that evening venues are much busier than on a longer voyage. I feel that sometimes waiters were a bit overwhelmed with the number of guests. Bars were busy for pre-dinner drinks. Trying to get one in The Queens Room at this time was difficult. I think this particular venue suffers because it doesn’t have a dedicated bar, in general, waiters serve from the Rise & Crown.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It is always immaculately clean, but I have started to notice a few threadbare carpets.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabins are cleaned to a high standard. Beds are very comfortable and there’s more than adequate storage space, if taking lots of suitcases, I’d recommend that you chose ones that can fit inside each other. You can than make full use of the under-bed case storage.

Ship tip

In the centre lifts, I believe only two of the four go to higher than deck 9.

Ports of call

Hamburg, Germany

4 out of 5
Lovely, friendly city. We decided to explorer on our own using the ships shuttle bus to take us into the city. Buses were frequent. We were also travelling with a family member using a mobility scooter. The staff at the terminal couldn’t be more helpful. Hamburg was easy to get around. We even found a hop on hop off bus which could also take the scooter.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Always clear information provided prior to disembarking. It’s always a military operation to get so many people off a ship in an efficient time.

Did same trip last year with my wife. We enjoyed the trip and found Victoria a really good ship. We really did like the Miniatur Wunderland. We came off QE in November and thought standards had dropped a little. We will try P & O for a while and maybe go back to Cunard when new ship is launched.
