Review summary

Cunard has gone downhill since our last cruise with them and to be quite honest is poorer than many 3 or 4 star ships that we have been on. The QV is a dark ship inside. So much so that we both felt that we were starting to suffer from the SAD syndrome after a few days on the Atlantic crossing, so we had to make a point of going outside on the sea days, regardless of the fact that the first few were rather cool and windy. The lifts actually reminded us of our visit to the Titanic Experience in Belfast, where you are taken up in a virtual lift with dark wood panelling. Many people commented on the lack of decent amounts of light. The itinerary was OK, but could have been a lot better. Between Southampton and San Francisco, we passed by some ports that we knew were better than the ones we visited!

My wife and i came off her on the 10th. She is a lovely ship and is supposed to look this way. The only thing i agree on is the cleaning of the windows. Back off qm2 recently before xmas and many times before on qe. Standards imho are fantastic and are 5 star.

Sadly, this review was published by the Shipmate app crashing before I'd finished it, so here is some more. Cabin, rather beige and bland, but bed was comfy and plenty of hanging space. We had a wheelchair accessible cabin, with a wet room. However, Cunard seem to have forgotten that disabled people, just the same as everyone else, need shelf space to put things. There was none whatsoever, so we ended up spending 27 days taking things out of and putting them back into our wash bags, which had to be left on the floor! Ridiculous design! Our cabin steward, Katri, was excellent in every way. As mentioned by another reviewer, the portion sizes in the Britannia restaurant were somewhat "Weight Watchers" size. Overall, the food was OK, but rather repetitive a d our waiters constantly interrupted our meals asking everyone individually if our meals were OK. Very annoying when we are eating and trying to engage in polite conversation. As for cleaning the ship. Cunard could learn a lot from other cruise lines. When we left Southampton, many of the windows in public areas were already dirty. We arrived in Bermuda and thought that they would clean them. No. They were left and only on day 16 were the wi does cleaned so that you could actually see through them in the Golden Lion pub. Other lines would have had officers checking cleanliness and had it sorted. Some of the entertainment was first class, most was average and some was abysmal, with one guy who had been on Broadway telling us far too much detail about his private life than we really wanted to know. Virtually everyone commented on it.
