If you sail on this vessel, even if you go to warm climate, bring a winter coat, they keep the public areas very cold, 60 degrees. The vessel is old and dated.
Do not expect to be "entertained". This ship lacks trhe entertainment quality of many others. Once again, I say, consider the demographics of the passengers. This was by far the oldest group of folks we have of any cruise we have sailed. (30+ cruises).
We eat I. The Lido, and we are early people, so we never had crowds. My tip is to eat early
spend your money on another Cruise line instead of HA
Don't over pack and if you bring your own DVD's make sure they are not Blu Ray and will play on older devices.
Staff is excellent. Small size affords the opportunity to meet and know other passengers and crew.
This ship is small, about 850 passengers maximum. The entertainment possibilities are somewhat limited. The average age of the passengers is senior citizen, 70+ for the majority.
What the vessel lacks in modern bells and whistles, it makes up by the very positive attitude of the whole crew.
best of HAL -- smaller goes to great spots that behemoths cannot
Its a small ship which I prefer. Its a little bit outdated but cosy and nice.
Ship is low key. Many people love it and do back-to-back cruises on her at least once a year. But it is low key. No Las Vegas atmosphere. No disco. No water slides or climbing wall. Know what you are looking for. This is not for everyone.
If they offer a Scotch tasting evening, go! We had a terrific time. The host was so entertaining and so were the other guests. Lots of fun and good tasting!
NICE SIZE BOAT NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE AND EASY TO GET AROUND. AND TO MEET PEOPLE. DINING HOURS WERE NOT A CATTLE CALL. WAIT STAFF VERY GOOD.
The Prinsendam has been beautifully renovated. It is a small ship and you will get to know many of the guests by sight. Very comfortable and plenty to do. You will never be bored.
Check cabin bed configuration prior to accepting assignment
The main reason we have sailed so many times with Holland America Line is the size of your ships. We could not, for example, have enjoyed the visit to Bordeaux on a typically larger ship of other lines. There were no crowds to contend with, and the general air was one of complete satisfaction.
Ths size was nice for locations but too small for activities. The other issue was you had to look at the daily activity sheet or you would miss an activity
Most welcome feature is it's small size.
This is HAL's most popular ship, due to it's smaller more intimate spaces. A lot of the people on the ship have cruised on the Prinsendam in the past. The ship is a little tired looking but the spaces are still enjoyable.
