Beautiful ship - lousy service
Pride of Hawaii Cruise Review to Hawaii
Ship: Pride of Hawaii

Review SummaryWe were on the 2nd cruise of this brand new ship, 6 people, 4 state rooms with balcony. The luggage was picked up in our hotel in Waikiki (Booked via NCL) at 8.30 a.m., we boarded at 1 p.m., our luggage was finally delivered at 8.30 p.m. 1/2 hour after the departure. We had no idea if the luggage made it on board. We complained 4 times and offered to go and pick up the luggage ourselves which was denied. We went to dinner in a specialty restaurant in shorts and t-shirts.
Rooms were not made 4 times (!), phoned housekeeping in the evening. Ran out of toilet paper 3 times, since it was never replaced. State room cleaning was a joke.
Bar and dining room service by the all-American crew was baaaad, everybody was friendly but completely clueless. We had wine with dinner every night. On 4 (!) occassions different waiters were not able to open the wine bottle or broke the cork by inserting the cork screw only 1/4! Draught beer was offered at 3 or 4 different bars, but it was not drinkable. "They are trying to clean the lines since we picked up the ship in Germany". Drinks were very expensive, draft beer $4.75 before gratuity, martinis around $10 before gratuity, wine by the glass and bottle extremely expensive. All restaurant had the same wine list, despite different theme restaurants. Specialty restaurants (7) charged between $10 minimum and $20 maximum per person, quality and service was noit different from the main dining room without extra charges. Especially annoying in some specialtly restaurants: The daily special required an extra $15 per person, making it in total $ 25 per person extra!
One example of our inexperienced waiters: He told two people in our group who were from South Africa: "I would not have guessed that your are from South Africa, I thought people with a funny English accent are all from Australia!" Although this statement was an insult, we laughed so hard for days!
My next cruise will be again with experienced staff from the Far East and eastern Europe!
Pros: brand-new ship with great amenities
Cons: service, entertainment, drink prices
