Cruise around islands of Hawaii

Sail Date: April 30, 2007

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

The ship itself was impressive, large, and had a variety of things to offer. We enjoyed our trip overall, but we did not honestly enjoy the "freestyle" type of cruising. This type of structure mininizes a traveller's chances of socializing on a continual basis with a group of other travellers during the dining time, and we found that people often were hesitant to sit beside others in the buffet style restaurant and if they did, the conversation was minimal and often interrupted by others coming and going. Every other person who had a conversation about the ship with us while we were on our cruise said they felt the same way about freestyle in comparision to the traditional way of cruising. It does have it's benefits in not being tied to a certain time for eating, but the frustration with making bookings and the associated costs in the nicer restaurants and the lack of socialization outweighed that benefit.

Pros: The beautiful yet differing islands

Cons: Freestyle

Recommends Pride of Hawaii (RETIRED)? No.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii
We snorkeled off a catamaran, which was a fun trip but as I understand it after the fact there was better sites on other islands.
Hilo, Hawaii
We took a tour and visit rainforests, craters, lava tubes
Don't Miss: the crater

Kahului, Maui
The Road to Hana was spectacular. We rented a car and drove all about. Driving to the volcano summit was great to do and the view was incredible.
Don't Miss: Road to Hana
Nawiliwili, Kauai
We rented a car and drove to the canyon and then up the northern coast. This island was in our opinion the most beautiful, and just had a different feel to it when driving around - the communities seemed better taken care of and more picturesque
