Nice, could have been better

Sail Date: May 01, 2007

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Traveled As: Family (older children)

Room Type: Balcony

For an American-based ship, it could have been decorated more to reflect the different states. The ship was nice. The best thing was that we could eat when and where we wanted to. You don't have to get dressed up if you don't want to. Nothing special was done for Memorial Day at all. It was not even acknowledged by the ship/staff.

Pros: Freestyle cruising

Cons: All American Crew

Recommends Pride of America? No.

Ship Quality
Handicapped accessibility was not good. There were doors that were very heavy to open to the side deck in order to get to the one dining room. Also, some of the thresholds were high and not good for people in wheelchairs. Problems existed the week of Memorial Day with the toilets not flushing on multiple occasions.
Cabin / Stateroom
There were major problems with getting into rooms on the 10th floor. The key cards did not work for a large percentage of rooms on the floor. We had to either stand or sit on the floor until a member of your party went down to Guest Relations and had the room card rekeyed. Also, we had trouble with our room attendant as our room only had 2 hand towels and the 1 roll of toilet paper half used on the wall. I didn't realize there were no bath towels until I got out of the shower to find 2 hand towels only. Our toilet paper actually ran out in the middle of the night as well.
Food and Dining
Food was good, but not great. If you went to the pasta bar, your food was never truly hot when "warmed up" by the cook, and by the time you got back to your table, it was barely lukewarm.
Service and Staff
Superficially friendly but not overly so.
Entertainment
We had the show "Shout" one night and 2 comedians. There could have been a better variety of things.
