Enjoyed it but could be better

We wanted a vacation together one last time before our oldest son moved out. We had been on a cruise before and thought this would be a great way to be together without the problems of travel between different hotels etc.

We enjoyed the cruise but overall, liked Royal Caribean better because their staff was more attentive (motivated by tips). Loved the entertainment. My main objection was the security search you are subjected to every time you return to the boat. If all the boats do this, we won't be back anytime soon. Also, the docking location in Maui puts you quite a way from most of the activities and sights.

Pros: The food was good

Cons: The security was a pain

Recommends Pride of Aloha (RETIRED)? Yes!

Cabin / Stateroom
The rooms were adequate with the exception of when the couch is made out into a bed. Then you have to crawl over the person to get out.
We didn't have a cabin steward (or if we did, we didn't know who they were). This was in contrast to the Royal Caribeen stewards who were always there. The staff was very helpfull and courteous.
Service and Staff
They were very helpful. Often their info may not match the official policies of the ship though. I think the tipping process which is much more prevelant on other ships, would have spurred them up to excellent.
Food and Dining
Food quality was great. The freestyle system led to almost everyone ignoring the resteraunts in favor of the Hukilau buffet. This meant long lines. The restreraunts were underattended due to dress code restrictions. We saw group after group turned away even after following the crew's recomended dress -- Hint: Crew statements are often at odds with official policy. The food and service was best in the specialty resteraunts.
Really enjoyed the singers and dancers. I expect to see some of them on Broadway or some other venue of great fame. We actually saw a few of the shows twice and still enjoyed it immensly. The comedy was cleaner than we'd seen on other ships.
Ship Quality
Ship seemed nice. Can't complain. The tender disembarkation process led to a jam packed condition with everyone trying to get off the ship on deck 3.
