Never Again on NCL to Hawaii

Sail Date: August 01, 2006

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

May 06 - This was to be my parents BIG anniversary trip. The first night, in their upgraded stateroom, their water stopped working and we were not even out of dock. Several calls and noone ever came...until the next afternoon! We later found out that was because toilets on another deck had backed up and those poor folks were living in stench and there were not enough crew on board, yet, to handle it. Calling information was hilarious. They had to ask several folks before they could tell us that "Sure the gym is open. Not sure if there is anyone there but you should find a schedule of classes there....... somewhere." The wheelchairs had wobbly wheels and asking for a replacement brought one that was in worse shape! The trip was stressful and my folks will never go on another cruise. The only relief was had OFF the ship.

Pros: Nice enough crew although not at all prepared.

Cons: Ship was not ready, food was not stocked, crew was not on-board!

Recommends Pride of Aloha (RETIRED)? No.

Ship Quality
The restroom near the Dining room was known by all travelers as the one to avoid at all costs. It would even be marked off as having been cleaned not 15 minutes prior and yet there was NO paper to be seen in it. The buffet was placed in such a way that one had to stand in a wind tunnel to get to the food.
Food and Dining
For two mornings, they did not have 2 out of every 4 items we ordered on the menu. The couple next to us ended up asking if the waiter would just tell them what he DID have so they could choose from that. Waiters and waitresses were clearly stressed and unhappy with what they had to deal with and lacked the experience to know how to comport themselves. The Dining Room was lovely, but, EVERY dinner was late and incomplete ("yes, fettuccine IS supposed to have white sauce and lobster should come with drawn butter!") no matter how early we got there.
Cabin / Stateroom
Comfortable and cleaned well by the room staff.
Service and Staff
Friendly but clearly we were a ship with many very new staff with little training.
Entertainment
The comedians were wonderful.
