30 Paul Gauguin Tips

Get ready to see some beautiful places, and be sure to interact and get to know crew and fellow passengers. Also, this is FRENCH Polynesia, so expect many French citizens and speakers. Our cruise was about half American half French passengers. I loved practicing my French and people were patient and kind. If you want to go scuba diving in French Polynesia, do NOT hesitate to do this. Forget the famed "over water bungalows" and go on the Paul Gauguin instead.

Cannot recommend it. Its a great idea but the ship is too old, too small, and far too expensive. Even though a small ship, the only dock it uses in the Tahiti itinerary is at Papeete.. tenders are used at every stop thereafter. They only run each 30 minutes. Only once did we see passengers turned away because it was too full- but we spent an awfully lot of time of our vacation waiting around for or riding tenders. Not pleasant.

Don’t rush over at 3 pm. Let that mob get in and then arrive. And, do it!

Not much to do on shore in Huahine or Moorea so best to book a shore excursion. Tendered at all ports but only 5 minutes to shore. Easy to get off and on.

I wanted to point out that all my pre-cruise went through my AMAZING travel agent, Mayra Silveira (cruises dot com). She was so attentive! We had a great time!

Try to get Level 8 Veranda Stateroom with Butler service. Very quiet and service is spontaneous.

Make reservations at specialty restaurants as soon as you board. Shore excursions are extra so do some research beforehand and maybe you can have an option. There is always something to eat so watch your diet.

The embarkation time is 3PM for the cruise took. E, and earlier arrivals had no place to wait. This could be a problem in rainy weather. Alcohol, except for premium brands, is included in the price, as is all food, regardless of restaurant. Evening dress is shoes, collared shirt/trousers for men

Book your preferred restaurant asap since the guest numbers allowed to two small restaurants are limited. Take the island tours either with the cruise or outside venders to see the whole islands. Outside vendors are highly regulated.

If you dive, do dive with them. The dive staff is great and you leave the ship right from the aft watersports platform that drops down from the ship - VERY convenient!!!
