Review summary

I want to share my experience : “ The Worst cruise experience ever"     Beginning with the arrival of the cruise. The most rude and unprofessional staff. Our destination ports were changed at the last minute for security but lead to Costa Maya? Have you been to this port? Do you guys knows how dangerous is that city? People offering Sex and drug at the arrival of the port and downtown. Contaminated area and muddy beach. Taxi drivers taking advantage of the poor passengers trying to sell overpriced tours ?.   Upon returning to the cruise were more than 300 people screaming and unhappy in guest services because of the experience in Costa Maya. A Nicaraguan agent took our names and cabin number and told us that someone was going to give us a follow up in regards to our concerns.  A family of 9 people were given complementary dinner and not others? What is the difference between them and the other guests around?.   I sent a letter to the captain and the letter was returned to my cabin? I went down to guest services again to leave the letter to the supervisor Diane. She took it again and make sure that the captain would receive the letter. The first time I leave the letter I gave it to Stanley's the manager and asked him please forward it to the captain. This lack of communication in guest services it shows me what kind of unprofessional and rude people i was dealing with. Guest service agent Benjamin Claudine was very unprofessional. It was 24:00 and order room service: it was 2:30 am and even the order did not arrive?  I called Claudine and she told me that room service closed at 1:00 a.m.? Why they didn’t told me while i  was ordering  and that they were closing at 1AM? and besides I call and she put me on hold 15 minutes and additional I called back and she did not respond again .... That I was frustrated to be treated that way.   If you call to guest services or the PBX they take approximately 15 up to 30 minutes to answer. I asked why? The agent told me that they don’t have enough people VS 5000 passengers?   They were teenagers having alcohol by the pool late at night and no security around?   It was my birthday and nobody did anything. I most recognized the great Job of my room attendant He was The BEST! and makes my birthday happy with a nice towel with the shape of a elephant on my bed.   The chef of the Solarium was rude. They had bad shrimp on the buffet.  I reported to the hostess that the shrimp were not fresh. The hostess brought the chef  to my table and in addition to that the chef told me that i didn’t know what i was talking about and turned away in front of many people. LEAVING ME SPEECHLESS with his attitude. Ms. Anna was friendly and she invite us for free dinner because of the inconveniences.   At checkout Ms. Katia from guest services and other 2 agents i forgot the names told us that Royal Caribbean will be contacting all the guest in regards to a compensation.    I called today Monday to know what they will do for us because of all the inconveniences and a young woman named "Jackie" from guest relations corporate informs me that we are not going to do anything? I told her that the cruise staff said that someone will follow up and call us about our bad experience and compensation. She replied that the staff was misinformed and that will not do anything about it. I told her I wanted to talk to his manager and she said that she don't have a manager? supervisor? anyone? I told her I did not think was true and that I was going RECORD our conversation and then she hang up the phone.WHAT A RUDE PEOPLE !!!!!!   We are so unhappy and frustrated    Tell me!    if you are in my position how will you feel? what kind of service is this? How are you in business? Our last cruise on Royal Caribbean years ago was an unforgettable experience and was great! This time we didn’t have the same luck.   I am very disappointed and i want the email of the CEO of Royal Caribbean because i want to take this to the highest level.   Best regards,   S&S

You sound like you are a lot of fun! 😏

I agree that vacations are hit or miss. My adulation, with proven basis, for Royal keeps us coming back. However, there have been cruises where the staff was indeed rude. Where we had to miss ports or were redirected due to inclement weather. Several emails were sent to the captain's attention and customer service representatives were notified, but my complaints fell on deaf ears. Yes. Contact RCCL directly. Do so respectfully but firmly. You will receive the attention deserved in a manner acceptable to you. We did!

I know Princess cruises would give you a two category upgrades if your birthday/wedding anniversary falls on the cruise day/ duration.

pennyderrick    9 years ago

if you had told your travel agent it was your birthday on that night the waiters would have sang you happy bd and given you a cake (or RC use to do this) AND you could have contacted RC and PAID EXTRA and had your cabin decorated for your birthday. BUT YOU HAVE TO TELL PEOPLE IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY !!!!!!

happytraveler69    9 years ago

you may never need to go cruising again! you mention that it was your birthday and no one did anything for you. were they supposed to? room service stops 24hr service the last night of the cruise. port changes/itineraries are subject to change for any reason, read the cruise contract. did you really have a notepad to get everyone's name? it was as if you were looking to complain about something.

Wow this review is awful. Was any up to par with your expectations? Hate to burst your bubble but I get the towel animal on my bed just cause its thursday. It seems like you walked around with a note bad taking names and listing every possible flaw in your trip. Please forward me your scathing review on how bad your flight was on the way home. I'm sure I'll get a kick out of how awful the honey roasted peanuts were. It seems to me you are looking for a refund. Unfortunately the employees of the ship can't always be on point catering to your complaints about shrimp. You didnt mention anyone else complaining about the freshness. Also it is not royal carribbean fault they ran into poor weather conditions. But if you must you can shout real loud and curse mother nature for being so terrible to give you terrible weather on your vacation. Her supervisor is the sand mand, her higher up is the tooth fairy. The complaint will put you on the nauty list with Santa clause.

Cruising during hurricane season is a risk you take.....meaning itinerary changes will happen to keep the thousands of people on the ship safe.....if an itinerary change is not something you want to risk, try cruising during high season and pay more......I think RCCL staff go above and beyond to keep people happy during their cruise....considering they are dealing with multiple personalities in a days time. In addition to that being said there is 18 thousand things to do on this ship as well as lots of staff....if one was rude find another staff member with the same job.....Hope you next cruise is a better experience.... Loyal to Royal!!!

Which cruise were you on? I know one of the recent ones had ports changed due to a cyclone. (You can't blame them for that). Just curious as to what you expected them to do for your birthday? You said no one did anything but then said your room steward did something? Rude staff is unfortunate.

What was your departure date? We just returned today 9/5 and found this to be a wonderful trip with all ports as planned. The Oasis is a beautiful ship with a wonderful a crew. Looking forward to my next cruise August 2016...or sooner :)

but I'll keep everything in mind that you said no matter if the experience is positive or negative @crusinTim .. Happy sailing! :)

Complaining to the captain of a cruise ship is about the equivalent of complaining to the president of the United States and expecting to get an answer.

Nee    9 years ago

@cruisinTim my first cruise was on Freedom of the Seas and I loved it, no complaints. This is only going to be my second cruise but I agree with everything you said though. You can't just let a bad experience or poor service go by the wayside. I honestly wouldn't want anyone to have a bad experience or poor service because these cruises are not cheap and a lot of preparation goes into it.

CrusinTim    9 years ago

@niania, I can only hope for you that if what was experienced in this review was experienced by many passengers onboard and they contact RCCL directly to complain. That is the only way crew that caused these issues will be corrected to ensure future cruises aren't affected by these issues. Many people just let it go and do nothing and  those sailing in the future on this ship may have the same negative experience. I have written (not sent an email, call them or use the "contact us" link on the cruise lines webpage) to inform them of issues. I write a letter and mail it to their customer relations department. It takes 2 to 3 months to get a response but the response is usually favorable and contain free amenities on future cruises with that line. I have done this for all 12 of our past cruises regardless if the experience was positive or negative. Just keep in mind, what this passenger experienced is NOT the norm for RCCL. Good luck on your future cruise :)

well it looks like roro3300 was on the same exact cruise as cruzcalenda and roro3300 has a bad review as well .. I'm just saying .. But my cruise isn't for another 250+ days sooo I'm not that worried.

Love Royal Caribbean and can't wait for our November cruise have been on 5 of their cruises and loved every one !!!!!

mattb069    9 years ago

Why not just go on vacation and enjoy your time away? Sounds like you whine about little things and are begging for some sort of refund? Seems like you spent more time complaining than trying to enjoy your trip. Grading the buffet is first class! Try carnival cruise line, you'd probably fit right in!
