Older ship a bit disappointing
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
Food was more cafeteria quality than expected high quality dining experiences of prior 7 cruise experiences. One of the attractions of cruising is relaxing & being treated like royalty. That's all gone with Freestyle approach and replaced with waiting in long lines to be seated, no assigned wait staff, no dinner rapport, stressful, chaotic & unorganized meals(selections not as described 3 times, entree never even arrived once!), servers' uniforms wrinkled & soiled, wait staff unfriendly & stressed, soiled tablecloths, empty or missing salt & pepper shakers, daily breakfast buffet was a competitive nightmare. Instead of looking forward to mealtimes, we came to dread the ordeal. Tried various dining areas, but the disappointing experience was pervasive.

The Jean Ann Ryan Company was polished, good quality & very entertaining, . The rest of the entertainment was schmaltzy & cheap lounge-ish.

Very welcoming, friendly & patient staff here offering lots of fun variety for the kids.
Service and Staff

Our room stewards were fabulous - no disappointment here, thankfully!
However, the rest of the staff we encountered were generally robotic at best - more often stressed & sometimes even bossy & rude (a shocking departure from past experiences).

Dated ship - decks and rails faded, carpeting old. In general it felt tired and well past it's prime.

Thank goodness for our balcony - a much appreciated place to escape and unwind!
Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary tour was well planned, interesting & enjoyable. Lots of wildlife - dozen of eagle sightings! Very good guides. The Horse Drawn tour was just OK.
Don't Miss: Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary tour
Alaskan Wildlife Experience - this was one of the coolest shore excursions I've ever experienced. Well worth the bus ride. Steve & Mario are fascinating, rare wonders & we felt honored to meet them. Very likeable, friendly & approachable. This is an excellent opportunity for hands-on, up close, face-to-face encounters with wild animals. High level of interaction. A fascinating glimpse into the lives of two very special people who've dedicated themselves to increasing understanding of animals of the wild.
White Pass Scenic Railway - what a wonder! How in the world was this built? An unparelled opportunity to view this beautiful, unforgiving terrain from what feels like an almost perilous track somehow chiseled out of the side of the mountains. Spectacular!
Don't Miss: Alaskan Wildlife Experience & White Pass Scenic Railway
Mendenhall Glacier & Wildlife Quest - What a great experience! The whale watching excursion was The BEST!! We saw 15 or more humpback whales, lots of eagles, seals & other wildlife. The staff was terrific - and so were their Humpback Mochas! This educational adventure did not disappoint!!
The Mendenhall Glacier is an awesome sight! Only wish we had more time here.
Don't Miss: Whale watching
Pros: Beauty of Alaska
Cons: All the waiting in line & chaos of dining experience
