Not What I Expected

Sail Date: July 02, 2006

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

We had been looking forward to this cruise for almost a year and must admit, we were terribly dissapointed. Overall, the ship was clean and well maintained. Our stateroom was comfortable and larger than we expected. However, we were very disappointed in the food. We expected five star quality food and service and felt we got one star. We had to wait for many of the restaruants which would have been less of a problem if the food were worth waiting for.

The available deck space and deck chairs was limited. The result was that for special events, you would be able to get food but then have to find a spot to sit and eat it. Most oftern, folks would eat standing.

The expereince of cruising was not what we expected. In fact we are not sure if we are willing to give cruising another go.

Pros: Alaska

Cons: The food was terrible, many of thye wait staff were rude, there were too many lines and not enough places to sit.

Ship Quality
The ship size was too small (or there were too many people)....we are not sure which, however, the overall condition of the ship was very good and it was very clean. The decor was cecent and it was easy to get around.
Service and Staff
Service varied. The staterrom folks were wonderful. Some of the wait people were excellent while a few others were rude or abrupt.
Entertainment
Food and Dining
The food was absolutely terrible and not what we expected at all. For the most part, the service was average. We qare not sure if this is because of "Free Style" cruising but we were very disappointed.

We only had about 40 minutes in Juneau as a result of our excursion. The helicopter ride and dog sled trip is a must whether you do this in Juneau or one of the other ports that offers this excursion. Alaska is beautiful and the helicopter ride just drives this home.
Don't Miss: Helicopter ride and Dog Sled Camp.

Ketchikan, Alaska
We were there on the 4th of July and the town was buzzing. The folks in Ketchikan celebrate the 4th of July the way some folks might celebrate Christmas. The town people were wonderful, very friendly, polite and helpful. I would have liked to have had more time there.
Don't Miss: Our excursion was the Saxman Native Village. It was enjoyable but not necessarily a must see or do.
