Beautiful Alaska

Sail Date: June 01, 2014

Room Type: Suite

We recently sailed to Alaska on the Sun. The ship was laid out a little strangely. In order to get to Cuchina you had to either go thru one of the main dining rooms or down a level mid ship. Also mid ship on deck 5 or 6 there were a few steps down. It was very strange\, but over all it is a nice ship and all the staff was friendly and helpful. We were only going to do 3 nights in the specialty restaurants\, but after the 1st nights dinner in the main dining room we changed our minds. Yes\, we are foodies\, but we already paid a lot of money to go on this cruise and didn't really feel we should have to pay more for good food. Seemed like if you weren't a real food the main dining rooms were OK. The only specialty dining that was just OK was the Brazilian Steak house. Some of the meats were over cooked and dried out. Otherwise all the other specialty dining was excellent.

Pros: Our stateroom\, Owner's Suite\, and level of Service was Fantastic!!!

Cons: The food in the main dining room was absolutely terrible! Smoking in the Casino. Even just walking thru it was miserable. We tried to avoid it\, but sometimes you had to go thru it without going up or down a level in order to get the shops.

Recommends Norwegian Sun? Yes!

Children's Programs
Our 16 year old did go to the teen center a few times\, but not too much interested her. The staff seemed very nice.
Entertainment
We were a little disappointed in the shows and activities. We did do a wine tasting that was nice and bought some art and the art auction. Our 16 year old did go to the teen center a few times\, but not too much interested her.
Service and Staff
Randy our Butler and Patrick our concierge were both wonderful as well as our cabin steward\, Tony.
Cabin / Stateroom
We were in the Owner's suite and it was fantastic! We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and had our 16 year old with us. We splurged so we could have a little privacy. It was well worth it! It was like a nice apartment and the layout worked out great! We had the best view on the whole ship. Deck 11 front. We saw the glaciers before anyone else.
