Don't Do It!

Sail Date: May 01, 2011

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Large Group

Room Type: Balcony

Overall the ship was decent. It has clearly seen better days. Basic maintenance and repairs appear to be lacking...rust, chipping paint, and cheap decor do not make the ship shine.

Pros: Fantastic ports of call with amazing locals and culture

Cons: NCL

Recommends Norwegian Sun? No.

Ship Quality
Cabin / Stateroom
The beds are newer and have a good feel. Our stateroom attendant "Mel" was superb and he always provided extras in terms of towels, etc. The linens were crisp and felt clean. The bathroom was spacious compared to prior cruises, but (again) the fixtures and decor have seen better days.
The onboard television programming was better than other ships. The daily activities were few and far from interesting.
Service and Staff
Outside of our room attendant anda lovely man ("Darren") in the dining room, the ship's staff seemed grumpy and "put-out" by any questions or requests. The shore excurion staff was fact the shore excurions in St. Petersburg were down right deplorable!! Our excurion guide and NCL tour escort left an elderly woman (in her 80's) at the Peterhoff and two people in the bathrooms outside the Peterhoff by accident...seats on the hydrophoil from the Peterhoff were too elderly people were left standing upwards of 30 minutes on a moving boat while NCL tour guides took mom fell on the hydro because she had no seat and the NCL guide didn't show the least bit of care. Overall, my impression is that NCL could not care less if their passengers/customers were satisfied or even safe!!!!!
Food and Dining
Dining in the Seven Seas and Four Seasons were excellent. The food was very good at every service we attended. The buffets, on the other hand, were entirely lacking in terms of taste, quality, and preparation. After a few days, the continued service of deli meats, cold hot dogs, and wilted french fries became too much. When we were not in the main dining rooms - then we were eating at shore.
