Cruise on the sun okay

Sail Date: December 18, 2010

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Balcony

The ship is definitely in need of repair. Doors wouldn't shut, floors stained, furniture stained. We were told by the staff that in Jan 2011 it was going to dry dock for refurbishing. The shows were not very good. I was rather disappointed in them. However, the comedian was good. Some of the staff did not seem very happy. It seemed like you were putting them out at times. In the Bahamas and St. Maartin my son went scuba diving; he had a good time. In the Bahamas my husband and I went to the Blue Lagoon. The water was about knee deep except around the blow up climbing toys. It would be a good place for kids but not so much for adults. The dolphins and sea lions were fun to watch. In St. Thomas we did the Blackbeard tour. It was okay. There was a man at one of the houses that was very good and knew his stuff about old furniture. Most of the other things were just trying to sell you rum or jewelry. On St Maartin we did an island / beach combo. The driver was informative but the beach was not very good. We were to be at the beach 1.5 hours but when we arrived the driver only gave us 1 hour. We got charged $5 for each beach chair we used even though we were only going to be there 1 hour. The waves were high so we really couldn't even swim or snorkel. The food was good in the dining room but the buffet on deck 11 left something to be desired. I did like not having to dress for dinner every evening.

Pros: Cabin Stewards; dining room food

Cons: cleanliness; condition of ship; variety of activities

Recommends Norwegian Sun? No.

Cabin / Stateroom
Doors wouldn't shut; mattress and pillows need updated; balcony room smaller than on other cruise ships.
Entertainment
Variety shows were poor; comedian and juggler good
Ship Quality
Food and Dining
Service and Staff
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
The Blackbeard tour wasn't that good. Most of it was an attempt to sell rum or jewelry.
Nassau, Bahamas
Scuba diving good; Blue Lagoon poor for adults good for kids (unless you are going to swim with the dolphins or sea lions).
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
Island / beach combo wasn't that good; only had one hour at the beach even though we were to be there 1.5hours and was charged $5 to use a beach chair for and hour.
