Review SummaryHow about registering for a cruise vacation to the Bahamas and U.S. Virgin Islands with ports in Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Maarten to include world-class beaches, shopping and restaurants:
On December 4, 2010 my family and I set sail from Port Canaveral, FL on the Norwegian Sun on what we believed to be a 7 day cruise to these wonderful destinations. All was well until we left the Nassau, Bahamas and the Captain informed us we had developed mechanical problems! After being assured the repairs would soon completed and we would be on our way, we all felt relived and confident with NCL leadership.
Well, little did we know that without our knowledge, and probably in less time than we had spent on planning our vacation, our Captain and NCL Corporate Management decided not return to Nassau or Port Canaveral to repair the damaged propeller, or continue on to St. Thomas to have someone flown in there to complete the repairs. Rather our Captain and NCL Management deemed the ship safe and revised our itinerary to exclude the U.S. Virgin Islands, and diverted the ship to two vastly inferior ports,; he Samana, Dominican Republic and Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas. (Note: neither ports were handicap accessible)
To resolve any discontent, our beloved Captain did make an announcement on the ship PA system that he did not want to hear any further complaints, and refused to meet with a group of concerned passengers. NCL also failed to respond to written refund requests, however, they did issue a belated letter of apology on December 10th, a $100 on-board credit to your ship account, complimentary pictures, complimentary wine with one dinner, complimentary rum punch one afternoon, half-off snorkeling equipment rental for one day, 30% discount on a future NCL full priced cruise and most importantly a complimentary hippo slide access for one day., which we would have gladly paid for if we could have relocated it and sent our beloved Captain and NCL Management down.
When you think of all the money my family spent on airfare, hotel rooms, and upgraded accommodations, our cruise fell far short of expectations and next time we will cruise with someone else, or fly to the U.S. Virgin Islands and stay in a hotel, or condo. As far my NCL experience, I give them two thumbs down.
