Our Wonderful First Cruise

Sail Date: July 29, 2007

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

Our first cruise will definately not be our last! We had only been on the ship for 2 days and my husband said we need to do this again. Then he actually took the option of putting down the deposit for our next cruise with Norwegian and receiving a shipboard credit for it. For us, it was the first time in our married life that others were taking care of our needs and all we had to do was relax and enjoy it. Previously our vacations had been more of a do-it-yourself routine but after being pampered and catered to, I believe we have been won over to this style of vacation!

Pros: The freedom of tips being taken care of and the choice of dining options

Cons: the price of the professional photos they took, no package prices if you liked all of them

Recommends Norwegian Sun? Yes!

Ketchikan, Alaska
Ketichikan is unique in that so much of it is actually built over water! Huge stilts and supports are under such an eclectic group of buildings. The salmon were coming up the creek to spawn and provided another layer of enjoyment beyond "just shopping" We took the tram up the hill to the lodge for 2.00 and it was worth it just for the photo opportunities that it affords.
Juneau, Alaska
A bus picks you up at this port and takes you to town. If the weather is good a tram takes you 1800 feet above the city but if it is cloudy don't waste your time. Lots of unusual shopping and of course the "museum" If your bus driver recommends that you visit it--don't go out of your way for it if your time in port is short.

Skagway, Alaska
As the old fashioned cars make their way down the main street and the horse and buggy pull over to the side of the boardwalk that fronts the buidlings you almost wonder what year it is. If not for the modern mode of dress on everyone walking the streets you may wonder if you have slipped back in time. Everything in Skagway is interesting. The wildlife that you view while taking a helicopter flight and the majestic mountains as you ride the White Pass Train. The Summit shuffle was cute--you'll have to experience it for yourself!
