Sailing Away from the Bitter Cold

The Norwegian Sun is a "sister" to the Norwegian Sky, the cruise ship we rode when we took a cruise to Alaska's inside passage in 2003. Because of a great experience on the Sky, we thought the Sun would also be a great experience. We were not disappointed. The ship is beautiful, clean, and well equipped for good times. Except for 2 sea days, we travelled at night and were in ports all day. The captain did a great job of keeping us informed about our travel status.

Pros: The impeccably great service by the crew and staff members. They really treated us like they meant for us to have a great time. When we left home it was 2 degrees f. How good to get to Caribbean with 80+ degrees and sunny days.

Cons: The express disembarking was a bit chaotic.

Recommends Norwegian Sun? Yes!

Belize City, Belize
We took the jungle trek and cave tubing excursion at Belize. It was a lot of fun and included a very good lunch. It left us enough time for some shopping at the many shops and roadside stands.

Cozumel, Mexico
We had to tender to Cozumel which we thought wasted too much time waiting for boats. The snorkeling trip was very good, but we wanted to return to the ship for luch, then back to Cozumel to shop. So we rode tenders four times.
Don't Miss: Do one of the snorkel or dive excursions.
Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico
The swimming pool in Costa Maya is very good. But the best part for us was lounging on the beach after visiting the shops. We did not take any excursions at this port.

Santo Tomas De Castilla, Guatemala
We did not take any excursions at this port. The best part of our visit to this port was the terminal. The shopping there is a lot of fun. There was great entertainment by a marimba band and some young dancers. The farewelly by the residents/workers at the sail-away was a real hoot.
