A Great Time

Sail Date: February 16, 2008

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Oceanview

The Sun was very clean with extremely courteous and friendly staff. The kiddie pool was very small as was the adult pool but they were sufficient. The food selections were very good. After reading extensively about the cruise, we were attracted to Norweigen for its Freestyle cruising and its casual nature; we were extremely disappointed to find that we had to pay to eat anywhere but the buffet and 1-2 other options as well as wear pants. We were not prepared for this in either regard and so could not enjoy the enticing dining options. The rooms were nice. The show theater was a little amateur but nice. Overall, we had a very good crusing experience with Norweigen and now that we understand more, we would consider it again in the future.

Pros: The ports and excursion options

Cons: had to pay and dress up for almost all restaurants despite Freestyle cruising

Recommends Norwegian Sun? Yes!

Food and Dining
This was our one area of disappointment. We were under the impression we would be able to eat anywhere on the ship with few exceptions with the cost of the cruise. Also, several times on the website, casual clothes are encouraged for packing (one faq even states you can wear your bathing suit from day to night) but neither was the case. Pants were needed to dine almost anywhere at night and we did not have any. Though the buffet was very good, after a couple of days, we were ready to try something else. We did have a few other choices we took advantage of.
Ship Quality
The staterooms were kept extremely clean by the excellent staff. My only negative would be the theater - the stage clearly needed a paint job. Otherwise, the entire ship was extremely clean and accessible.
Cabin / Stateroom
Very, very good overall. Great use of space. Always kept immaculate. Staff came twice a day.
Service and Staff
Phenomenal. Everyone was exceedingly friendly and willing to help in any way possible to make our vacation the best it could be.
Entertainment
Loved the excursion options.
Children's Programs
Cozumel, Mexico
We did the snokeling at Palancar Reef. It was a 1 1/2 hour boat trip each way which we did not realize but it was fine. The reef itself was a little disappointing after all the wildlife we saw in Roatan. It was cool to see the reef itself but I was expecting more fish. Instructors were fantastic and a lot of fun. Shopping in the town was also a lot of fun.
Belize City, Belize
We went to Banister Cay which was a beach stop. We only had 2 hours which was initially disappointing but there was not much to do. We wished we had chosen something else but it was still nice to just relax.
Great Stirrup Cay (Cruiseline Private Island), Bahamas
We LOVED it here! Gorgeous beach and water with a lot to do. There could have been more lounge chairs but there was plenty of shade and hammocks. The water was fantastic and there was great snorkeling.
Don't Miss: snorkeling
Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras
Our favorite! The beach was gorgeous and the snorkeling was fascinating - definately a must see! We were provided luch which was ok but we loved everything about this location - plenty of shade or sun, crystal clear water with lots to see.
Don't Miss: snorkeling at the beach
