This was our second family cruise on Norwegian and we have enjoyed both trips immensely. Our first trip in 2004 was on the Norwegian Sea, and we were thoroughly pleased with the service, cleanliness and attention from the staff. The Norwegian Sun was every bit as nice a ship - nice pools, hot tubs, restaurants were fantastic, the entertainment was very professional and varied, something for every age and taste. The ship staff was pleasant, cheerful, helpful, knowledgeable and fun to be around. We especially enjoyed the singing waiter - he was a character!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
All of the restaurants we tried were great - the only ones we didn't visit were the French and Japanese specialty restaurants. There was something available at any time of day or night, the buffets were as tasty and well-prepared as the dining room menus. Because there were so many excellent healthy choices I only gained six pounds this time.
Entertainment

Being musicians we were pleased to have so much variety in entertainment. We enjoyed jazz, Broadway, folk music and Reggae - all live performers. Great!!
Service and Staff

The staff was exceptional - our stateroom attendants were friendly and helpful, and they made every trip to our room an event with all of their nice surprises - towel pets, fresh ice in the middle of the day, bed turned down at our personal bedtime (how do they know?!)
Ship Quality

The layout of the ship was not as easy to "navigate" as the last ship we traveled on, but after a couple of days it was alright. The attention to hygiene was appreciated, as staff members asked travelers to sanitize hands before entering any common areas.
Cabin / Stateroom

We were assigned the smallest room of any of our family members even though we were also "Latitudes" members, but even so the accomodations were ample, clean, and comfortable. It was nice to have a safe in every room - nice detail.
Our favorite port - it's a fun town, the vendors are fun to bargain with and you can find some very nice things. On both trips we've had lunch at Pancho's Backyard (Waterfront at 8th Street - I picked up a matchbook this time with their address). It's cool and shady, the musicians are fun to see and hear and the food is good and priced just right.
At the town square some young men put on an Mayan ritual dance show - that was an unexpected treat.
We thought this was a wasted day - a faux port. More like going to the Mall on Christmas Eve than a "port of call". We made a run-through of all the shops and went straight back to the ship.
We enjoyed Belize City. It's easy to get around, the residents are friendly and the shopping is good. We especially like the Fine Arts gallery. There are interesting sites without having to pay for an excursion.
The "mall" at the end of the gangway turned out to be a better deal than we thought after spending $120 on a cab to go into town. The taxis should be monitored more closely - they take advantage of travelers and you don't get what you pay for. We hired the cab to take us to Puerto Barrio market and then to the new Santo Tomas mall, but instead we got a 90 minute tour of the slums. The driver never took us to the mall but brought us back to the dock early instead. The vendors in the shopping area by the ship were so desperate for a sale we felt pretty uncomfortable being there.
