Great Birthday Celebration!

Sail Date: July 01, 2006

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

Our vacation started off great, as my wife surprised me with bon voyage goodies. Fruit and wine, cake, cheese and the room was all decorated to celebrate my 55th birthday. We sailed the Sun to Alaska, and experienced unusually great sunny weather every day. We knew our way around the ship as we had sailed to the Caribbean on her a few years ago. We upgraded to a balcony room which turned out to be the best! We didn't have to stand in the crowds to see the action because we could see it from the comfort of our stateroom. This was especially great when we visited the Sawyer Glacier as the ship turned around in the fjord and we all had perfect views. The food was presented beautifully in the buffets however the taste was sometimes off. We had no problems with reservations for dinner at East Meets West, one of the specialty restaurants, and the steak and lobster was worth the extra $25. The Chocoholics Buffet was to die for, and the ice sculptures were amazing. The ports of call were great. The shows were a real treat. We planned excursions everyday. The Best of Ketchikan-Land and Sea was the best, like 3 in one. A boat ride with lots of eagle viewing, a cannery tour, and a visit to Saxman totem park which had incredible carved totem poles. With extended daylight and gorgous sunsets we could not have had a better vacation. Plus the embarkation was fast and the debarkation was quick and easy.

Pros: The friendly and attentative staff.

Cons: Nothing, it was all great!

Ship Quality
Overall the ship was very accessible with info to get you around easily. All the hand washing stations at the food areas gave us a sense of security. The crew was constantly cleaning and maintaining a pleasant environment.
