Smply Marvelous Cruise

Sail Date: April 01, 2006

Reviewed: 11 years ago

Traveled As: Family (older children)

Room Type: Inside

Pulling into the dock, the Norwegian Sun was an impressive sight to behold. This ship is elegant in design and functionality. It allows one the freedom to bask in the sun, run the track or workout in the gym or to dine in elegance in one of the many restaurants or to shop to your hearts content. This ship has the space and design to allow one to enjoy alone time or to participate in the many activities created to entertain or allow one to meet and make new friends. The day trips at the island stops were varied enough to anticipate the enjoyment needs of many different personality types. From the courageous ones who would ride horses in the mountains and then swim under the waterfalls, to the "heavy duty" (no duty)shoppers, or to the relaxed individuals who desired nothing more than to stretch out on a mat in the sun with a good book on a beautiful beach. These same individuals could be entertained in the casinos on the ship or sing karoke in the clubs, enjoy a quiet conversation in the library or play music bingo with the wilder side. The Sun provides enough space and diversion for whatever type of relaxed fun you so desire.

Pros: Freestyle dining, awesome staff, entertainment possibilities

Cons: Hidden costs

Cabin / Stateroom
We had an insided cabin and had to upgrade to hold the family. The couch remained a bed the entire time which allowed limited moving space in the room. I greatly missed having a clock, but it is vacation. If you are used to a large luxurious bathroom, remember to economize, because they are very small, but convenient.
Ship Quality
Luxurious, spacious and elegant with great functionality.
Food and Dining
The freestyle dining provided the off schedule stomach to enjoy food on their own schedule rather than the customary sit down dining. With the speciality restaurants, any food preference could be had with a little planning. The chocolate buffet was to die for. I highly recommend trying the many different types of food but remember to top it off with the fabulous desserts.
Service and Staff
The staff went above and beyond to accommodate to our every need. Rosa, our cabin steward was awesome. It is hard to believe they leave their families for the extended periods of time that they do and still keep the cheerful, helpful attitudes that they do. I was greatly impressed with the staff.
Most of the entertainment was geared toward the adult age level. However many shows had a large draw for the younger set as well. There was a variety of comedians, singers, dancers, and even clowns that could appeal to the young at heart, regardless of age.
