This was our first cruise, so we do not have another to compare it to, however I am a travel agent and have booked cruises for others. We thought the service was excellent and attentive, although there was a language barrier with the steward, though we did manage to communicate eventually. We embarked late as we took an optional land tour in Honolulu, so no wait there. We did our homework regarding the "freestyle" dining so we were not surprised at the service fee at some of the specialty restaurants. Not sure I agree on charging extra... the restaurants were not full any night. I'm sure some passengers were discouraged by the fee. Our favorite was the Le Bistro (French). The food was excellent as well as the service. The one restaurant that took us by surprise was the Italian Trattoria...this was a small corner of the Market Cafe (cafeteria) which was converted by red checked tableclothes. The food and service were fine although the ambiance was missing. We loved the entertainment and commend NCL on this! Five stars on this. The pool staff was attentive and personable and we loved them all. The sea conditions were rough and two port calls were cancelled as we could not safely tender to shore. We were disappointed that we could not go to shore but I commend the captain for making the call. You can't blame him for the weather. The fitness center was great and the classes were fun. The spa was serene and heavenly. We loved Hawaii and Norwegian Star. We were not disappointed. Chris/Bob from Ohio
