Had A Blast!

Sail Date: March 01, 2008

Reviewed: 8 years ago

Traveled As: Large Group

Room Type: Balcony

I'm shocked at the poor reviews for this ship. I cruised in late March with my "other half", his mother (age 70) and his aunt (age 60). No one was ill on board, food was good, service was mostly excellent, room was fine.

Pros: Freestyle - Eat when we wanted to

Cons: Unsupervised children; restaurant reservations

Recommends Norwegian Star? Yes!

Children's Programs
The pool was filled with unsupervised screaming children. The parents fault, not the ships.
Ship Quality
Sure, it's big, but there are plenty of places to go if you want to party or have some quiet time.
Food and Dining
We cruised on the DAWN from New York a few years ago and I thought the food was better this time around. The buffet is the buffet; great for breakfast but routine for other meals. Our solution - we went to another venue. Many "no extra cost" alternatives available. Yes, it's annoying to pay extra at the specialty restaurants - we went to two. Food was great at the main dining rooms - we prefered Aqua.
Cabin / Stateroom
We had a balcony room on deck 10, mid-ship. The rooms on a cruise are "cozy"; that's the way it is. We always cruise in a balcony room to avoid that claustrophobic feel.
Service and Staff
We found the staff consistantly going "above and beyond". We were also polite and treated people with respect. So many people treat "service" employees like dirt; think about it.
Entertainment
Every night, the list of things to do was long (a dozen and more) and varied. If you're bored on a cruise ship, it's time to break out of your comfort zone.
