This trip to Alaska was our first cruise. After waiting 9 hours in the convention center to board the ship things were off to a rocky start. The first day at sea brought rough water made worse by the fast pace to make up for lost time. The line made no attempt to appease their guests for the uncomfortable and delayed boarding. On board we were overcharged for a drink, were unable to get a satisfactory answer from any employee on customer service questions, had a hard time making dinner reservations and when we went to a restaurant we were made to feel unwelcome by the staff. Many activities were cancelled without notice. We did enjoy the shore excursions and ports of call and the food in the buffet was fairly good.

The food was good and the service in the specialty restaurants was excellent. However trying to get a reservation was hard. The desk did not answer their phone and they were not readily available. The paperwork states the restaurants are open to midnight with seating until 10:00pm, but they would not take reservations after 9:00 and made you feel unwelcome if you arrived after 9:00, even though you were paying additional to dine there.

The nightly shows were very entertaining. As for the rest of the schedule, some of the activities we wanted to attend were cancelled with no notice. The bingo offered was at an additional charge, a fairly high one in the opinion of many of our shipmates. We took several naps as nothing of interest was offered or available. It was interesting that there was an important meeting they wanted you to attend, but there were 3 other activities scheduled at the same time.

No one was willing to go above and beyond to assist you. The friendliest people onboard the ship were in the specialty restaurants. If you ordered a glass of water in the lounge you were lucky to get it as it did not guarantee a tip to the server. The cash drinks had an automatic gratuity added to them.

Some locations were hard to find, such as the steakhouse, as they were accessible by one set of elevators only. The public restrooms were not as well maintained as expected.

The stateroom was as expected. It would have been nice if the window would have been cleaned more often though.
