NCL Spirit - excellent crew, ship!
Norwegian Spirit Cruise Review to Bermuda
Review SummaryThis was our very first cruise with NCL after 6 cruises with Carnival, and the Spirit was as beautiful as reviews reported. We chose this Boston to Bermuda itinerary because no flight was required and it was very relaxing.
The ship is modest in size (70k tons) as compared to the mega-ships today, but still large enough to provide many of the amenities and activities one desires including multiple lounges and dining rooms, a nice casino, and a beautiful auditorium. A viewing room is also available to view the navigation bridge. Many specialty restaurants are also available at extra charge.
The crew was one of the best we've experienced, and the music on board was also the best we've enjoyed. The pool band kept us company during the sea days, and the other venues were equally fun in the evening.
The food quality was somewhat disappointing as compared to Carnival, primarily because you don't have the Captain's dinner and past guest cocktail nights, nor do you see the lobster tail and escargot offered in the dining rooms. This was also our first experience with the Freestyle cruising. This option is great because you aren't under pressure to return to the ship by a specific time - you can dine at either the Windows or Garden dining room until 9 or 10 PM, and the buffet and other restaurants are also available.
For an excellent cheeseburger in paradise hit the Blue Lagoon - a unique venue that offers seating w/ menu but is free. An outdoor barbecue is also offered 2 or 3 nights with barbecue chicken, burgers, dogs, and shrimp - a very nice touch! And the bier garten and other bars offer Heineken on draft - wow!
Overall a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend the Spirit to anyone - the ship is beautiful and the crew is the best!
Pros: Crew, music, Blue Lagoon cheeseburger
Cons: Cabin size
