We sailed out of New York on May 28 and it was the worst cruise we have ever taken. My husband and I went on the cruise with our three children. My husand and I have cruised many times on other cruise lines - this was our first NCL cruise and our kids first time on a cruise. We wanted to try to Freestyle Cruising and found it anything but Freestyle. It was difficult to get reservations and for the two restaurants we were able to get reservations for only one was worth it. The Italian restaurant was the absolute worst Italian food we have ever eaten. You could get better in the frozen food section of a grocery store. The steakhouse however had good food but the service was poor. There is only one swimming pool on this ship and it was always crowded and filthy. By day two of our 6 day cruise the pool was cloudy and smelled and it just got worse as the cruise went along. The staff on the ship needs some serious team building training. It was obvious that if it was not their job they were not going to do it. We actually watched a waiter on the pool deck knock over a full ashtray - look at it blowing all over the guests on the pool deck then walk away. The impression was that he was a waiter and he shrugged like oh well the cleaning crew will be along at sometime to clean it up. We had to wait to play at one of the tables in the casino because several crew members were playing a game of poker amongst themselves. The public bathrooms on the ship were always littered with toilet paper and urine stained seats. We had two inside staterooms booked and they were a decent size. The shower was almost a full size shower which was a nice surprise on a cruise ship. HOWEVER...back to the uncleanliness of the ship - there was a strip of mold in our shower that remained there the entire cruise. The entire ship's crew was disorganized and getting off the ship for an excursion was a nightmare. We came home feeling disappointed that this was our children's first cruising experience. We cannot wait to take them on a real cruise on a different cruise line so that they can really experience the way cruising is supposed to be.
