We took the Western Carribean cruise. Overall it was "OK". I'll start with the pro's: The staff was excellent. They all did a very good job of predicting our needs and remembering us by name. The dining room staff was especially friendly and playful.

I was not impressed with the ships "feel" or decor. It was nice, but not overly impressive. The nightclub was very hip and cool. However, no one was in the club - probably due to the older crowd. The rooms themselves were an obnoxious bright color and made to feel like "beachy". They fell short, and just seemed cheap.

Don't expect the Excursion desk to help you decide what excusion to take. They were very "blah" and offered no solid advice. When asked about one, they'd say "it's nice" and about another "it's nice". We hoped they could give us an honest assesment of which is better.

One obnoxious thing was the lack of a laundry room thereby forcing you to pay their overpriced fee to wash clothes ($3 for a pair of socks - and up from there). Pack plenty of clothes!

The itinerary was fairly good. When in Belize, try to get to San Pedro - a beautiful island city. Belize City has nothing to offer. Snorkeling off Belize is also really cool. I would recommend visiting Shark Ray Alley (an area near the reef) where you can swim with rays and sharks. They are literally inches from you, and it's exhilerating. In Guatemala, I'd recommend taking the river tour to see how the people really live here. In Cozumel we just hung out at the beach, and that was nice. Take a cab to Playa Mia beach. It's $16 pp to enter, but worth it.

Lastly, the food was just "ok". Some days were better than others. The soups were consistently bad, the scrambled eggs fake, and all food was overly salty. The buffet food was also usually poor. But there were some good dishes in the main dining room.... Ask the waiter for his suggestion of the night. They usually know which are getting the most complaints and will steer you away from that.

Most of the shows were typical cruise quality and not good. But there was a very good acrobatic show and an "Elements" show. Both were excellent and what I would expect to see at a $100 pp Cirque du Solei show!
