Wow. Where to start...We booked this repositioning cruise from NYC to New Orleans mainly because of it's itinerary/ports of call, had never cruised NCL before. Never will again. Our room was on deck 9, directly above Champagne Charlies bar. Music every night was SOOO loud, we couldn't hear our TV over it. We called the desk twice the first night, they were polite and said would see if could get it turned down a bit (music went to approx 11-midnight)..Nothing ever changed. We dialed again the third night, same answer, problem continued. Finally our 4th night, we went to desk asked if we could possibly get a diff room (we only wanted another inside room like we paid for, weren't trying to get an upgrade etc etc, like I know folks do) That time, the gal at the desk was great, said no problem and within minutes we were re-packing our room and headed for a new quieter room...But WHY did we have to ask? Why wasn't that offered the prior THREE times we had complained? We felt it was pretty ridiculous.
The food on this cruise...well, let's put it this way, my husband and I both actually LOST a few pounds. We ate mostly in the buffet Raffles, since it is on your own clock, the food was extremely bland, a lot of it was cold and flat out u nappetizing looking. Just gross. Desserts looked pretty but were nasty also, flavorless and waxy. They provide only water/milk w/meals, w/the exception of juice in the morning...Can't get juice any other time. I ate spaghetti w/garlic most nights with a piece of bread because it was the only thing that was very good. The alcoholic drinks were reallly inconsistent, depending on which bar you ordered them from, they would look/taste totally different, and of course are super expensive as they are on all cruises.
The entertainment was pretty sad. We walked out of the 2nd City/Improv comedy show, it was just not very funny. Lots and lots of folks walked out, I felt bad for them kinda :) Hypnotist was only 'okay'. We spent quite a few hours playing 'Yahtzee" in the game room and reading in the library. The hot tubs were nice, clean and hot, pool was nice size/clean, but definitely gets crowded during the day. Worst part of whole cruise, late to 1st port of call by 3 hours (weather, so not their fault), they cancelled 2 of our 3 scuba outings., (one for weather, other they said 'not enough participants???'. Very very disorganized system of giving out tender tickets/going ashore, was just asinine, and they didn't care when you asked them why they did things the way they did. Felt like cattle on this cruise line. We aren't demanding folks, are very casual and polite, hesitate to complain about things, but WOW, there's no nice way to put it, this trip SUCKED. Back to Royal Carribbean for us.

The worst I've ever experienced...Bland, Cold, Unimaginative, downright unappetizing. Hubby said in his experience army mess halls serve better. Also, up to $25 a head for a subpar steak restaurant. Unbelievable....

Very sad. Subpar. Not very much on the daily schedule to do for 'at sea' days..Redundant activites, no variety. We used the gym a lot, but equipment was in disrepair, at least 3 of the treadmill tv's didn't work. Nobody really manning/staffing the gym, so there were towels all over, coffee cups, few folks knew that they should be using the provided wet wipes to clean after they used equipment. Gross. Underage kids in gym also, when posted not to be there, Actually saw a young girl break an elliptical machine while playing on it. Nice.

Service and Staff

Overall, just felt ignored by all but the room stewards. Oh, and the one supervisor gal at the reception desk did change our room when we specifically requested, but earlier complaints were met w/politeness but zero response.

Ship Quality

Ship seemed maintained okay for its age, easy layout etc. The occasional 'bathroom' odor in room and hallways. Decor a tiny bit outdated, but who really cares.

Cabin / Stateroom

We liked our inside stateroom on deck 9. Ours was clean enough, and comfortable. The room stewards are the hardest working/nicest employees on the ship by far. Friendly.

Pros: Hmmmmm....we felt our stateroom was clean, nice. (inside room)

Cons: non responsive staff, food was HORRIBLE (bland/cold) , poor entertainment

Recommends Norwegian Spirit? No.
