NCL Spirit- Disaster

Sail Date: January 06, 2008

Reviewed: 8 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

Our overall impression is that we will likely not sail NCL again. The ship, staff, food, stateroom did not meet our expectations. We almost entirely missed a port and came home with Norovirus. We were not impressed with NCL. We were uninformed throughout the trip and due to illnesses alot of the fun stuff on the ship was cancelled.

Pros: Ports of Call

Cons: Stateroom, food, lack of information and coordination

Recommends Norwegian Spirit? No.

Service and Staff
The staff was fairly friendly, but no one really went out of their way for us. Our stewards were nice enough, but we did not get any of the special treatment that we had heard about from previous cruisers.
Entertainment
The bands were pretty good. The games were corny, but fun. The casino was ok.
Ship Quality
The ship was nice, but the layout was confusing at times.
Food and Dining
The food was below average in the buffet, and bland in the main dining rooms. The specialty restaurants were very good, but you had to pay extra to eat at them.
Cabin / Stateroom
The stateroom was dingy. We walked in and one of the first things we found were a used Q-tip in the bathroom and another person's pants in the closet. There was mold in the shower and the bathroom floor did not appear clean. The balcony was nice- if we could have slept there, we probably would have.
Santo Tomas De Castilla, Guatemala
The port is nothing much. The Rio Dulce is beautiful, but the full day excursion of Rio Dulce and Quirigua is too much.
Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras
The port was good, but we were approx 3.5 hrs late in arriving so we did not get to do anything but walk down the main road and shop.
Don't Miss: Couldn't tell you because our excursion was cancelled.
Belize City, Belize
This was our favorite port. The people were wonderful and the excursion- cave tubing with Major Tom (Greenwood Adventures) was fantastic.
Don't Miss: Cave Tubing.
Cozumel, Mexico
The port was crowded, but the excursion, Jungle ATV was fun. The water was the most beautiful we saw.
