Great first cruise!

Review SummaryThis was our first cruise, and I was chaperoning a group of 8 high school graduates. There were six of us adults total (two chaperones) and the 8 teenagers. Honestly, I found this a great experience, especially for the price.
We were in an interior stateroom (had to go cheap for the students) and even so, I didn't feel claustrophobic. Who cruises to stay in the room, anyway? It's small, but it's comfortable, and we had enough room for our stuff.
Embarkation was a little like a cattle call, but no worse than airport security, and debarkation was a breeze: well-organized and fast. Our fellow passengers were a young crowd, younger than I expected (30-somethings and 40-somethings). The entertainment was pretty good, a few really great shows, and there was a decent variety of things to do. We spent a lot of time hanging out up top enjoying the nice ocean view.
The ports were good. We did Universal Studios in Port Canaveral and some shopping in Nassau. The mosquitos on the private island were TERRIBLE the first night; we and most of our fellow passengers turned right around and went back to the ship to try again the next day (when it was better).
I found the food wonderful: we eat out a lot, and we eat at some pretty nice restaurants, and the food was on par with what we'd eat there. Freestyle dining is nice, although a bigger breakfast/lunch variety would have been nice. For dinner, we ate almost everywhere throughout the week, and food was overall great. Shogun and Cagney's were both great, and our favorite "main" dining room was the Garden Room with a wonderful intimate atmosphere. To counteract all this food, the gym was fantastic... never busy (ha ha... but the buffets are) and well-equipped. I had a good time in the Aquaswim pools for some "laps."
Staff overall was very friendly. Our housekeeper Mario really went the extra mile for us, as did many of our waiters/waitresses. Security staff checking in and out of the boat were a little harried, but i suppose that's to be expected.
Not many complaints... the pool closes at about 9ish, and is quite busy during the day, so we never swam or used the hot tubs. Our room (6019) was under the bar storage room next to the casino, and late at night (early in the morning) they'd slam some stuff around when cleaning up, which got annoying.
Regardless, cruising was a great experience for us, and a wonderful first experience. We will definitely do this again!!
