Based upon readings and reviews of this 'Freestyle Cruising' trip, we were extremely unprepared and thus disappointed. Be sure to read the fine, fine print.

Upon boarding, it was obvious that past cruisers on this line new to make dinner reservations for the entire cruise. With freestyle dining, most people chose to eat at prime time (7pm), and thus there was a wait of at least 30 minutes each night.

There are more specialty restaurants on the boat, which all charge a cover charge (no matter what the childs age) than regular restaurants. The two main restaurants offer the same meal choices, so if you don't like the meal choice, your only other option is the buffet or an almost hour wait (all times of the day) at their indoor small joint that has burgers and fries.

Kids LOVED the kids camp, but it is closed all day when you are at port unless you pay a fee.

Pros: Kids Camp

Cons: Lack of food choices

Recommends Norwegian Spirit? No.

Ship Quality
Boat was easy to get around. Boat was always clean, but many times the public rest rooms were not kept up with and toilet paper would be needed.
Cabin / Stateroom
No complaints. Nothing special.
Great classes. They pushed bingo big time daily (for a fee).
Children's Programs
Kids LOVED the program and didn't want to leave. Kids camp is closed while at port so unless you pay the fee, you have the kids all day.
Food and Dining
We were extremely disappointed with our dining experience. The staff appeared rushed and not interested in the guests (unless alcohol was purchased). Getting a second glass of water was hard. May meals we were brought something different than we ordered.

Specialty restaurants were awesome, but a cover charge did apply.
Service and Staff
No one went above and beyond the call of duty. In fact, most did the least to get by. I think one of the difference on a freestyle cruise versus a planned cruise, is on a planned cruise, the staff gets to know you. On the freestyle cruise the staff didn't care because they wouldn't see you again.
