Review summary

We immediately learned our way around this ship since it's not quite as large as some others that cruise out of NY. The decor is Asian, left over from a "previous life", but most of it is quite pretty. (The art works on the Norwegian Dawn were actually more to our taste!) The freestyle dining aspect of Norwegian cruises is wonderful - any meal at any time you choose in any non-specialty restaurant. We ate almost every meal in the main restaurant, Windows, and never had to wait more than a few minutes even at the peak dinner time of 7 pm. The one specialty restaurant that we visited provided a lovely dining experience and it was well worth the extra charge. We would do it again! The only negative that we experienced on this cruise was the bad weather one day out of NYC. The storm lasted for several hours and being seasick is no fun.....

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate in the main restaurant for most of our meals and although we might have liked additional choices on some nights, there was always something we could enjoy. The specialty steak restaurant was superb!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
There were many things to do (too many at some times) but the abundance of Bingo and the quality of the large shows in the theater left something to be desired.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everything we asked for was made available and the entire staff was always friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was well maintained and the overall appearance is Asian in feel. There was always room to move around and the crew worked very hard to keep public areas clean.....and they succeeded very well.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The staterooms on this ship do not have refrigerators -- we missed having one -- and no one told us that we could have gotten one if we had pre-ordered it. Of course, as always, the stateroom was quite small, but we did enjoy the balcony since it give additional space and light.

Ports of call

King's Wharf, Bermuda

3 out of 5
The distance from the dock to the town of Hamilton was quite far and therefore required a long taxi ride. The taxi ride did, however, afford us a chance to see the entire island, and it is absolutely beautiful!
Don't Miss: Just a tour of the island -- clean, colorful, and beautiful!!!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

3 out of 5
The shopping at St. Thomas was the big attraction for us and as it was a very hot day when we arrived there it was difficult to stay in town for too long.

Pros: freestyle dining and NYC departure/return

Cons: some bad weather
