We never got to board the ship. There were four of us and we are all American. We brought all of the specified paper work however, my mother brought her certificate of birth, not birth certificate. She had no idea that the laws have changed and that she needed anything different. She recieved her license, social security card and marriage license with that certificate. The people at the port had us running all over Miami to get a temporary passport. We had to PAY to have pictures and wait in a line for 3 1/2 hours. Then, once we finally were waited to recieve a quick passport they told us, "you can't get a passport with this birth certificate you should have known better!" So, we ran all over the town of Miami spent money on a taxi, pictures for the passport etc and when we got back to the cruise port and told them what happened they simply told us there was nothing they could do and we were not able to board the ship. They led us to believe if we waited in all these long lines and called these people we would have been able to board the ship. However, we went through an entire day of running around miami for n reason. What was most annoying is that we were obviousally Americans and had proof of it (ex. voting card, my mothers childrens, who were US citizens, birth certificates! How could we be Americans and she isnt if shes married to my father!) On top of all this they told us there was nothing they could do for us and we would get NO refund. I am sure the cruise would have been great but, I am very disapointed how NCL is not able to assist in providing excellent customer service for all of the money we basically donated to them. This is a very unfortunate situation however, if you do go on this cruise make sure you have the proper updated paperwork because even if it is obvious you are a U.S. citizen they only accept certain proofs of citizenship.
