Overall Great Ship and Cruise

Sail Date: October 01, 2009

Reviewed: 7 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

Had never been on a cruise before, so I did not really know what to expect going aboard. I was impressed by the service on the ship from the get-go, however; they greet you right on the deck with champagne and welcome you aboard. That same service continued and even got better. A shining example would be when dining at any restaurant aboard the ship, but especially Le Bistro, Il Adagio, or Cagney's Steakhouse (French, Italian, upscale American cuisine respectively). There was no need unattended, the staff were genuinely happy (it showed), courteous, and attentive. The food was of course excellent and plentiful, no matter what time of the day or night you might be hungry.

Pros: Freestyle cruising, top-notch service, great activities, and let's not forget the food!

Cons: Small-ish cabins and really small bathrooms

Recommends Norwegian Sky? Yes!

Cabin / Stateroom
The rooms and bathrooms themselves were kind of small, but made up very comfortably, with the most comfortable beds ever. Our stateroom was on the outside on the top floor, with a balcony to look out over the ocean anytime we wanted.
Service and Staff
The people on board Norwegian Sky were the best, from housekeeping right on through the cruise director and everyone in between. There was not an unfriendly person on the staff, and if we had a question or concern about anything, they were all more than willing to help. You really haven't had true customer service till you've been on a cruise like this.
You really could do just about anything, anytime on the ship. Every night, there was a 4-page schedule of the next days' activities delivered to the room. From those, you could choose to do all of them or absolutely none of them, depending on your preference. There was also plenty to do on each of the 3 islands we stopped at, between exploring, shopping, or just beach bumming. Again, there were also lots of planned shore excursions for each stop, none of which we participated in. If you were bored, it's not because there was nothing to do!
Ship Quality
The Norwegian Sky was kept immaculately clean, and also well-decorated in most areas. It was also very large, with its own jogging track around the perimeter of the ship.
Food and Dining
Again, there was a good variety of food on board, with several buffets available until 11 pm, as well as several sit-down restaurants. The best were the 3 premium restaurants, Le Bistro, Il Adagio and Cagney's. You could find anything lots of it, just about any time.
