Great 5 Night Cruise on the NCL Pearl by DavidR20

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was great. It is only 3 months old and it is beautiful. The decor is a little unusual but fun. We enjoyed it. After getting used to it, it was not difficult to get around. Balcony stateroom (10146) was nice and well apportioned. Plenty of room and closet/drawer space. Lots of activities. Pool Deck was nice. Staff were some of the best we have encountered cruising. Very pleasant, helpful and efficient.

Better than I Expected by DanM8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Caribbean - Western

A few friends and I traveled on the Norwegian Pearl on February 11. As a die hard Royal Caribbean cruiser I was pleasantly surprised by the Pearl, the staff, and the food. We stayed in a mini suite and it was lovely. Another couple stayed in an inside cabin and although comfortable they would not recommend it to friends. We liked the free style dining but in the restaurants that charge cover charges I did not find the food any better prepared than in restaurants that didn't. As far as food selection I found it to be the best of any cruise I've been on. I am a health nut and did not have any problems keeping it healthy. One of the bar staff even mixed my protein drink for me each morning after my workouts because they did not have a blender for my room. The exercise room was excellent for a cruise ship. I was able to stick to my workout routine without any issues. The running track was a disappointment because it was too narrow and obstructed by light poles. Our cabin stewards were excellent, they were very attentive and took care of our every whim to include fixing the bed so we could not feel the separation when the two beds were pushed together to make a queen size bed. The on board shops were lacking and did not offer much in the way of merchandise. The nightly shows in the main theatre were very good but outside of it there was not much variety to pass away the time. We took a go at the bowling alley and found it to be a great way to pass the time. There is an additional fiver dollor cover chare per game which includes shoe rental. They did limit us to two games because of the wait list. Debarking was the smoothest Id ever done. You had until 1am to put your bags out and did not need to bee off of the ship until 1030 am.

Superb Staff by ManuelD

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our kosher food selection overall was very good, although they did not have everything on the Kosher menu, especially the soup. The staff were extremely obliging in providing whatever they could, including food from the galley which happened to be kosher. Certain items, such as ice cream, and some baked goods, could be available for all passengers without increasing your costs. All the staff on the ship were very friendly and helpful.

An excellent cruise!!! by DianaS6

The Norwegian Pearl was absolutely amazing...we've been telling people that we were on the cruise of our lives. It truly felt like we were at a resort on water. The ship was stable as can be, never experienced sea sickness as we have on previous ships. The ammenities were very modern and relaxing. The service was outstanding in the dining areas and by the pool area. The crew members went out of their way to ensure our satisfaction. The stayroom was also amazing. We had a room with a balcony and it was all that we needed...a more expensive room would not have added any additional value to our trip...the room we stayed in was absolutely perfect for the limited time that we spent indoors. The room service was also out of this world...both the selection and the services. The layout of the ship was very convenient, to get from place to place. The setup of the theater was much more improved over ships we have been on before, it truly felt like we were inside a theater. Overall, it was a great experience.

Great Cruise, Great Ship! by MarkC18

Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We just completed a 5 day cruise on the NCL Pear from Miami to Cozumel and Belize. The ship is gorgsous. We stayed in one of the suites on the 11th floor and were very pleased with the room and the service. All of the staff on the NCL Pearl were extremely friendly and accomodating. In general we thought the food was very good. Reccomend making reservations at the various restaurants as soon as possible to ensure you get a decent reservation.

Great time! by KarenR19

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The best...the staff was superb...happy, helpful, always smiling. I just would hope that on future cruises, (and hopefully the older crowd will read this)....TREAT the staff with respect! TOO many times did we witness some of the elder generation being scornful and down right mean to many of the crew!! It was so sad to watch! They are there to help, and DO try their best! Another suggestion for NCL is to have more midnight buffets. They did have a chocoholic buffet one night and it was fantastically done. The desserts were great, and the presentation was beautiful. However, we did find that we were hungry a few nights, and our only option was a 24 hour lounge that served alot of heavy, fried foods...not so good on the stomach at that hour!

The ship was absolutely beautiful, clean and well managed. The staff was terrific. Our room was always well maintained and we enjoyed a lovely balcony. The dining areas were beautiful. The design and decor of the ship were outstanding. This is my fourth cruise with Norwegian. I have yet to be disappointed.

Free style dining by MarionM1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Freestyle dining left a lot to be desired. One evening we waited 45 Min. to be seated for dinner (they gave us a beeper - just like Outback or Olive Garden- which is not my idea of carefree dining). Also freestlye dining wasn't very free. Cover charges to eat at most of the specialty restaurants - an average of $20 per person - were compareable to the cost of a restaurant meal onshore. Since meals were included in the cost of the ticket this seemed excessive. Meals in the main dining room were free but the choices were low budget - turkey, beef tips on noodles, chicken, etc. To be fair, a few of the meals were very good - especially the lobster on the formal night. Overall I would prefer regular dining options. The staff was excellent. Friendly, efficient, and helpful. They were the best part of the trip. The Norwegial Pearl is a very pretty ship- it is only a few months old - but it did seem to rock and roll a lot. The sea didn't seem that rough but the was a very perceptable rolling motion, particularly in the cabins. The attempts to extract as much money as they could out of everyone through overpriced drinks, pictures, shore excursions, etc was annoying. Two 4 oz. glasses of wine cost $22. (a 15% tip is automatically included ) on the pool deck.

Short and sweet by Jim964920264

We choose a five day cruise for total rest and relaxation. We got all we wanted and more. The choices from "rock" wall climbing, basketball, shuffleboard, bowling (on 4 regular size lanes), gigantic water slide, 2 pools to the Casino, shopping, bingo, art shows, library kept us busy whenever we weren't stuffing our faces with wonderful food items. The nightly entertainment from the shows to people watching kept us busy in the evenings...and of course, more food. What's not to like?

Norwegian Pearl by KerryR2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We sailed the 5 Night Western Caribbean itinerary out of Miami on 01/28/07. This was our fourth cruise overall but our first on NCL. We flew in the night before which I highly recommend and stayed at a hotel in South Beach. The next day we took a very short taxi ride over to the port around 3 PM and proceeded through the lines with ease. It took about 20 minutes total to check in and finally arrived at our inside Cabin on Deck 9. The room was adequate for two people..cant imagine more then two people in the room but it worked out quite nicely. The bed was a bit hard for our liking so we asked our cabin steward to place a mattress topper on the bed which he did and it was much more comfortable. Most nights we slept like babies. The bathroom was actually bigger then I expected which was a nice surprise. We missed having an ocean view room but spent little time in our room that it was fine. We did not have any problems with noisy neighbors but the couple we traveled with did. They were 3 cabins not from us but we did not hear a thing. Our luggage arrived about an hour later. Prior to our cruise, my husband had called NCL to have 2 bon voyage gifts delivered to our room and to the couple we were traveling with (their first cruise). We called and asked when the gifts would be delivered and they told us when we left port. The bon voyage gifts never came and my husband was extremely disappointed. The person we talked to said the order was never placed and they had no record of it. They were neither apologetic nor sympathetic regarding the mess up. That perturbed us. The funny thing is my husbands credit card was charged..would love to know who ended up with those bon voyage gifts. We did not really did not hang out on the pool deck other then passing through as we wandered the ship. As many other previous reviews have noted, it was difficult to obtain lounge chairs because people would mark their chairs with all of their belongings and take off for most of the day leaving empty chairs behind. That was a bit annoying. We really enjoyed hanging out on the higher decks which were less congested. Casino- We played blackjack a few times but didnt do that great. Also, wanted to play roulette, but they dont allow you to play your $5.00 minimum with $1.00 bets. That really disturbed me so I found the slot roulette which did allow you to place $1.00 bets. I didnt do to good on that either. You forget your on a cruise ship and expect to get your drinks for free but that did not happen. I think one night ladies drank for free for 2 hours and another night; it was buy 1 get 1 free. Still miss those free drinks while gambling. The $5.00 blackjack tables were usually crowded but would only have to wait a few minutes to get it in on the game. Most of the dealers we encountered were good but some had no personalities. Now for one of the major parts of any cruise, the eating. One of the reasons we had decided to try NCL was the Freestyle dining that they advertise. We had mixed feelings on that whole concept. The idea of not having to dress up and meet for dinner each night at the same time was actually quite nice. However, having to make reservations and wait for tables was not quite what we bargained for. Thanks to previous cruisers, we made reservation for 3 restaurants as soon as we got to our room. I thought we had reservation but realized that only 1 of my reservations was made when we made our way to La Cucinas our second night of the cruise. The hostess was very helpful and was able to get reservations for those other nights. Our first dining experience was at the main dining room, Indigo. We arrived and were told the wait would be about 45 minutes. They gave us one of those beeper devices and we ended up going to the bar for a drink which was no problem. We were seated within thirty minutes. The food and service were good. We also tried La Cucinas which we all though was
