Norwegian Pearl Cruise Review to Alaska
Cabin Type: Oceanview
Traveled As: Family (older children)
Reviewed: 7 years ago
Review SummaryPearl is a new, large, clean, pleasant ship that moves at 22+kts in any sea condition w/out pitch/yaw. We were able to do/eat exactly what we wanted, wear what we wanted to wear, and take part in our own choices of Alaskan excursions in three cities: Juneau, Skagway, and Katichikan with no problems. (we made all of our own excursion plans)
I just checked, and I added NO weight by taking advantage of Cooking Light entrees offered in Pearl's restaurants.
We had an extremely hard working Cabin Steward (NOEL), and many fine waiters and waitresses from Romania/Philipines etc. who were outgoing and friendly...they all really made an effort to be helpful!!
I swam in both pools (both mildly heated) in 55degree Alaskan weather, and was able to take more than 12 strokes to cross this pool. No competition from kids in the adult pool!
LaCuchina is the best restaurant and is w/out cover charge!!!!
The std. breakfast buffet had all good food but somewhat 'standard'.
Lox was average, mackeral was ok, eggs were cooked well...all good,
but not much variety.
I like different kinds of draft beer, and single malt scotch. There were no single malts, and few draft beers, but this probably saved us money.
Cagneys was over rated...Bistro was excellent as was the Sushi Bar.
Basically, this was a good Alaskan cruise for first timers, and those with children.
The June 3 cruise had approximately 2200 folks, and this might have made the difference. (more space, less people)
Pros: Very steady at Force 12 (Hurricane 70 kts) No pitch/yaw
Cons: "Sameness of non-Specialty Restaurants"
