Great Ship and Great Trip!

We thoroughly enjoyed the NCL Pearl. The freestyle cruising is great - eat when you want, where you want, and with whom you want. The stops in Alaska were absolutley breathtaking.

Pros: Friendly staff and great stops on itinerary

Cons: Can get crowded in buffet lines

Recommends Norwegian Pearl? Yes!

Ship Quality
No complaints. Everything was well kept, there were a ton of places to go and lots to do. The ship was easy to navigate, too. The spa was great!
Food and Dining
We didn't eat at any of the 'upcharge' restaurants because the food was perfectly fine everywhere else. It's not 5 star dining, but I wouldn't expect that. But, we're from Chicago and have eaten at some of the best restaurants all over this country. So, we know when food is good and when it isn't. This food was good -- we would compare it to high quality wedding banquet.
Cabin / Stateroom
We had an inside cabin. It's not huge, but we had plenty of room.
Service and Staff
Everyone was very helpful and very friendly. The wait staff was great at the sit down restaurants.
Tons to do! If you find yourself bored, get out of your stateroom!

We walked to the inner harbor and then did a 'pub crawl' on recommendation from a couple travel books. We hit Irish Times (great beer and food); went across the harbor to Spinnakers - awesome food, great beer, and beautiful views of the harbor; then headed to Swans - good beer and dancing; and then to Canoe - again, good beer :)
Don't Miss: The harbor area and great microbrews
Ketchikan, Alaska
We rented a car here and it was the perfect place for it. There was great wildlife viewing right along the road way. We drove to Herring Cove Bridge which is right across from a salmon hatchery and the Alaskan Rainforest Sanctuary. We saw bears, eagles, seals, and some other great wildlife! Then we drove to a section of the Tongass National Forest and hiked around a lake there. Not challenging hiking - but great scenery again!
Don't Miss: Exploring around the island on your own
Skagway, Alaska
We took the WPYR train ride. The scenery was beautiful - but the ride is a bit long. I wouldn't recommend it for kids. Afterward we hiked up to Reid Falls and down to Lower Dewey Lake. You can get trail maps in town.
Don't Miss: Hiking - they have some great challenging trails with beautiful scenery
Juneau, Alaska
We didn't do any 'ship sponsored excursions'... We just took a cab to Mendenhall Glacier and hiked about 8 miles on trails there. It was awesome. Then we caught a bus back to town and had a beer at the Red Dog Saloon. Lots of fun.
Don't Miss: Mendenhall Glacier!
