The ship, Norwegian Pearl, is the newest ship for the Norwegian Cruise Line, this being its inaugural year. The ship was beautiful, the balconied rooms were adequate and the public rooms were nicely appointed. The staff was phenomenal!!! The Casino was great and of decent size. The shore excursion choices were terrific and delivery of tickets ordered in advance was handled smoothly. We cruised to Alaska so the pool area did not excite much. We did find that the personnel at the Spa pushed product ad nauseum. My husband went for a shave and ended up with almost $400.00 in facial products (we returned it the next day). I only bought one lotion, which I really wanted. Also, there were too many picture taking "events". Wherever you went, there was a photographer snapping pictures - dinner, getting on the ship, going on a shore excursion, etc. Just too much! The entertainment in the main theater was terrible. The lounge shows were much better. There was not enough organized activity during sail days.

Food and Dining

Hated the freestyle dining.Food at buffet below average as were meals at the extra charge restaurants except the French restaurant. Norwegian Pearl, was new and built for dine around. Unless you wanted to eat early (5:30) or late (9:30 - 10:00) you couldn't dine and see the (horrible) shows. The shows were around 9:00, too early if you had (or wanted ) to eat around 7:00. Although it was stated you could make reservations, when we tried we were told no times were available (or 5:30 or 10:00 only). I finally got fed up with this and after being told that the Italian restaurant was booked for the night , 6 of us went up to the restaurant about 1/2 hour before we really wanted to eat and were told that they could seat us within 30 minutes. Steakhouse was worse than Outback, Bugaboo or Longhorn. It should have been like Mortons. Not enough seats at the buffet. People tended to eat and sit.

Entertainment

The shows in the main theater were terrible - very amateurish. Most cruise ships have the entertainment at around 10:30 after the last sitting, but here the shows were around 9:00, too early to see if you eat around 7ish. The lounge shows were good (singers, piano players, trios, etc.).

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Loved the staff - they were wonderful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship is new, everything was in excellent condition and the decor was smashing, especially the Chihully sculpture in the Atrium.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved my balcony accomodations. We had a large party and were able to open the outside doors between the balconies so we traveled between rooms without going out in the corridors.

Pros: The Casino and the Staff

Cons: The Food - It was terrible, including the specialty restaurants

Recommends Norwegian Pearl? No.
