Review SummaryThis being our sixth cruise, we had certain expectations, which were not met. The pool area was small, causing overcrowding and less than appealing water quality. The food was quite good, but not open hours that we were used to, and the "ice cream" bar was only one small area, open only certain hours. There was no way each day to know what the weather was, even in the cabin TV, which had a camera mounted on the bow which certainly could have included temperature, etc. On the days at sea when the weather was not good, there is very little to do on the ship. There is no indoor spa pool, no movie theater, even the shopping area is very limited. We did make use of Massage and facials, but found they were overpriced. We understand this is a small ship, but that is what we usually prefer, and we feel it may be time to retire the Majesty. The crew was very friendly, but we do not like the freestyle dining. It is much more personal, we think, to have the same service staff throughout the cruise so you get to know one another. apparently "freestyle" has also made necessary the mandatory $10/pp/pd gratuity - we have always tipped generously and prefer to make our own decisions regarding that.
The maintenance onboard was ongoing, which is normal, but on days at sea parts of the promenade deck were closed for cleaning, which meant we had to do our walking indoors, throughout stateroom hallways. One elevator was out of service the entire cruise.
On the plus side, we certainly were pleased with Philadelphia Cruise Port, and that part of the trip - all went very smoothly, and on our return we used the Express Departure method and were quickly back to our cars.
Our cruise was great fun as we travelled with friends with whom we frequently travel and we always enjoy ourselves, but we definitely will not cruise on Majesty again, and probably not NCL. Our past experiences with Royal Carribbean and Celebrity have been exceptional so we will most likely return to one of them
